He Loved Me in Secret, Until I Became Someone He Could Never Have Chapter 10

Doesn’t know him.

Alessio stood in the Bellandi lobby for a long time.

Then he got a new number and texted me. [Vivi, I know I screwed up.]

[On our anniversary, I was going to propose.]

No reply. He kept going.

[What happened with Bruno. It wasn’t what Camilla told you.]

[After he got hurt, I took him straight to the emergency vet.]

[The doctors worked on him for hours. In the end, they couldn’t save him.]

[I didn’t explain right away because there were too many people at the office. I didn’t want everyone knowing he was our dog.]

[I know how ridiculous that sounds.]

[Nothing ever happened between me and Camilla.]

A/pause. Another message.

[But I’ll admit it. I liked that she needed me.]

[Looking after her in public didn’t make me look biased. Looking after you did.]

[So I gave all the softness that should’ve been yours to someone I didn’t even love.]

[I was wrong.]

[Just give me one chance to see you.]

A few seconds later, the message failed to send. He stared at the screen, waiting for the “Delivered”

notification that never came. Blocked again.

When Dominic called, Alessio was sitting on a bench across from Bellandi headquarters.

“Where are you?”

“Port Aurelia.”

“Did you see her?”

“No.”

Dominic was quiet for a moment. “Alessio. I didn’t know you two were together for five years. If I

had, I would’ve called you out a long time ago.”

Alessio said nothing.

Dominic kept going.

“She gave you five years of her life building this company, and you didn’t even know which floor

she lived on.”

“She brought in over thirty projects, and you told everyone it was all Rinaldi’s name doing the

work.”

“She kept cleaning up Camilla’s messes, and you couldn’t even sign off on her travel expenses in

front of people.”

“You blocked her promotion. Handed her work to Camilla. And when she got set up, you didn’t even

bother to look into it.”

“Why the hell did you think she’d wait forever?”

Alessio’s knuckles went white around the phone.

“I didn’t think she’d leave.”

Dominic was quiet for a long moment.

Then he said, “No one stays forever.”

He mentioned something else about that anniversary night. “You know, she was already heading to the airport that day.”

“I dragged her into one last dinner in Grayhaven. That’s the only reason she stayed a few extra

1 hours.”

“She was waiting for you. And you went to Camilla instead.”

Alessio shut his eyes. He couldn’t breathe.

Up on the top floor of Bellandi Holdings, I stood at the floor-to-ceiling windows with a cup of

coffee.

he figure below had been sitting there for a while.

Valerio walked over. “It’s raining. He’s still there.”

I didn’t turn around. “Let him.”
