I pushed open Lila’s hospital room door.

She was curled up in Kael’s arms, sobbing softly.

At the sight of me, she flinched and buried her face in his chest.

“Kael, make her leave! I don’t want to see her!”

Kael patted her back gently, in a tone I’d never heard from him.

“Don’t be afraid. She’s here to apologize.”

He looked up at me, his eyes turning ice-cold.

“Get over here.”

I stepped forward and bowed.

“I’m sorry.”

“Is that all?”

Lila lifted her head, outraged.

“Kael, she ruined me with this dirty disease!

“My acting career is over! I’ll never be a star again! One sorry isn’t enough!”

Kael frowned.

“What do you want me to—”

“I’ll give you a proper apology,”

I cut him off.

“Give me two hours.”

I turned and left.

Two hours later, the area below the hospital erupted in noise.

I arrived with a dozen hired women holding bright red banners.

Bold yellow letters blared:

MS. LILA THORNE, I’M SORRY I GAVE YOU A DISEASED ORGAN THAT RUINED YOUR HEALTH! PLEASE FORGIVE ME!

One woman shouted into a megaphone directly at Lila’s window.

“Ms. Lila Thorne! We’re so sorry!”

“Ms. Elara is deeply remorseful! Please forgive her for giving you a flawed organ!”

“She tried to refuse, but you forced her! Please don’t be angry!”

Windows flew open across the building.

Curious eyes stared at Lila’s room.

The System shrieked again.

[System]: This isn’t how the apology goes!

“Since when does an apology have a script? ”I snapped.

“I said I’m sorry. That’s an apology. ”

Before I finished, Kael stormed over.

He ripped the megaphone from the woman’s hand and smashed it on the ground.

“Elara Voss! Are you insane? Lila is an actress! You’re ruining her!”

I glanced at his Regret Meter—it had climbed to 50%.

I blinked innocently.

“I just wanted her to feel my sincere apology. ”

“Should I come back tomorrow and do it again?”

Kael seized my collar in rage.

“Can’t you see reason? ”

“Do that again, and I’ll stop supporting your mother’s medical treatment.”

His phone rang immediately.

He answered, and his face turned ashen.

He hung up and stared daggers at me.

“What else have you done?”

“Nothing much,”

I said, smoothing my wrinkled collar.

“I rented the downtown digital billboard. ”

“Your apology plays on a 24hour loop.”

I smiled sweetly as his temples throbbed.

“If Lila still isn’t satisfied, I can book a TV interview too.”

“You—!”

Kael raised his hand to slap me, but a rushing nurse cut him off.

“Mr. Voss! It’s bad! Miss Thorne tried to hurt herself in a fit of despair!”

Kael’s hand froze.

He raced back to the room.

He glanced back halfway to warn me.

“If anything happens to Lila, I’ll bury you with her.”

I smiled darkly.

“Look at that. 60%. Think I can push this to 100% today? ”

“Others take years. If I finish this fast, do I get a bonus? ”

The System sounded exhausted.

[System]: Bonus?

Lila is trying to kill herself!

This isn’t in the original story!

The plot is broken!

“Calm down, ” I yawned, heading back to my room.

“She won’t actually kill herself. ”

The System panicked.

[System]: Aren’t you afraid Kael will kill you in a rage?

My voice turned cold.

“If he tries, it’ll be even easier. We die together. ”

Besides, I added, “Kael won’t have time for me. ”
