Three Years in Europe for Everyone—Except His Pregnant Wife Chapter 09

Three Years in Europe for Everyone—Except His Pregnant Wife Chapter 09

It was Kai’s mother’s fifty–seventh birthday, and we held her birthday banquet inside another large estate belonging to the Peirce family.

Every guest in attendance was wealthy and well–connected.

Kai’s mother had picked a silver shimmering off–the–shoulder gown for me, and also gifted me a vintage high–jewelry heirloom set.

My mother–in–law and I had an excellent bond.

She frequently spoiled me with new clothing and jewelry. We spent our days together caring for Leo Peirce, sipping afternoon tea, going shopping, and getting manicures side by side. We got along like close best friends, completely at ease around each other.

Kai held our son in his arms, and I linked my arm through his as we greeted guests.

Moments later, Ethan and Rae walked straight into our line of sight.

The smile vanished from Ethan’s face. He stared at me in disbelief, then shot his gaze over toward

Kai.

I kept my arm locked around Kai’s and strode forward toward them.

I’d already laid every detail of what had happened between Ethan and me out for Kai long ago. So seeing Ethan stirred no surprise within him at all.

Rae looked stunned and probed cautiously.

“Ms. Thorne, what’s going on between you and Mr. Peirce?”

“We are not on familiar terms for you to address me so casually,” I replied, my tone cold and

distant.

Rae looked plainly embarrassed by my frigid demeanor.

Kai’s voice was cool and formal.

“This is my wife. Do you have some sort of question, miss?”

Ethan was thunderstruck. “W–wife?”

Kai shot back, sharp and commanding.

“What about it? Do you have a problem with that?”

Ethan could barely process what he was seeing. His eyes welled up instantly. He fixed his gaze on

me and warned hoarsely.

“We’re still married! How could you-!”

Pain washed over him, and he bit back the harsher words he was about to blurt out.

My expression turned stone–cold as I issued him a sharp warning.

“Ethan, if you start making a scene here, I will make certain you leave this event completely disgraced.”

“Don’t push your luck. The divorce was finalized three years ago. You’re nothing more than a

shameless clown hounding me.”

Ethan burned with hurt and outrage.

“What divorce? We never got divorced!”

Though furious, he feared drawing unwanted eyes, so he kept his voice lowered.

I could hardly believe how brazen he could be.

Burning with rage, I pulled out my phone and held up my old chat records right in front of his face. “Look closely! I notified you three years ago. I terminated my pregnancy and filed for divorce.”

Beneath Ethan’s shell–shocked stare, I pulled up the photo of the official court divorce ruling and

showed it to him.

“Read this. You skipped both court hearings without any valid excuse. The court granted our

divorce.”

“I have moved on. I married a far better man, and I’ve got a lovely little son now.”

Ethan stood frozen.

Tears spilled down his cheeks. He looked wronged and tried to defend himself.

“I never got any of those divorce messages! I had no idea any of this was happening!”

To prove he was telling the truth, he pulled out his phone and showed me his chat history.

Sure enough, that final message I had sent was nowhere to be found on his screen.

“Ethan, none of that matters anymore.”

“The fact is we are divorced. That message was sent. It didn’t just vanish into thin air.”

“Someone didn’t want you to see it.”

My eyes drifted pointedly over toward Rae, who was growing visibly nervous while forcing a calm

composure.

Arealization hit Ethan.

Rage flared inside him. He grabbed Rae’s arm hard and barked at her.

“It clicks now! You took my phone the day we arrived in Paris three years ago!”

“You packed all my luggage too. Did you delete my messages on purpose and destroy those court

documents?”

Rae opened her mouth to deny it, but Ethan’s furious, blazing gaze terrified her into falling dead

silent.
