Three Years in Europe for Everyone—Except His Pregnant Wife Chapter 07

The cleaning crew worked for three full days before the house was spotless again.

Putting on her understanding act, Rae brought up an idea.

“Ethan, let’s go shop for baby supplies and toys together. That would make it easier for you to bond with your child.”

Ethan’s mood lifted. He thanked Rae warmly.

“That’s a good idea. I’m lucky to have you brainstorming things for me.”

Rae wore a smile on her face, but deep down, she was filled with quiet anxiety.

Ethan headed to the baby–goods section of the shopping mall, excited to shop. By sheer coincidence, I was there picking out things for my son, and we ran face–to–face into each other.

Ethan’s eyes lit up with joy.

“Honey.”

He hurried over toward me. “I can’t believe running into you here. I’m shopping for our child too.”

He held up his shopping basket for me to see. It was mostly filled with toys. He grinned and kept

talking.

“I didn’t know whether we’d had a boy or a girl, so I picked out things for both.”

I stared at him, my expression ice–cold.

“Ethan, when did you turn into this?”

He looked confused, convinced I was still mad over him leaving for his Paris work posting three years ago. He tried coaxing me with a smirky grin.

“Come on, come on. I’m back now.”

“There won’t be any more overseas postings. Our little family won’t be separated anymore.”

“You went through so much these past three years. I’m going to make it all up to you.”

As he spoke, he moved to pull me into his arms, trying to soften my attitude with physical contact.

His closeness, his touch, his breath made my skin crawl. I could not stand it for another second. I lifted my hand and slapped him hard across the face.

“Ethan Grant! That’s enough!”

“I’m not playing your pretend–family game. We got divorced a long time ago!”

Ethan froze, completely stunned.

I turned and walked away.

He hurried after me and grabbed my arm.

“Yvonne,

I know I was wrong to leave you and the child back home alone.”

“For the kid’s sake, can you let go of your anger?”

I jerked my arm free from his grip and stared straight into his eyes, my tone sharp and unyielding. “Ethan, I will tell you one last time. There is no child between us. Everything between you and me ended a long time ago!”

He furrowed his brows, frustrated that he could not calm me down.

“If I had known you would get this upset, I would have quit my job rather than take that three–year

posting to Paris.”

A cold smirk crossed my lips.

“I stopped caring ages ago. I’ve built a whole new life for myself now.”

“I’m perfectly happy with how things are. Know your place and leave me alone.”

With that, I started to leave again.

Ethan grabbed my arm once more, his voice turning pleading.

“I’m begging you, drop this anger. My parents and I miss you and the child so much.”

“Bring the baby home, and we can all live together as a family. Please?”

I lost my patience. My face flushed with rage, and I snapped at him.

“Ethan, quit putting on this act!”

“I terminated that pregnancy three years ago and filed for divorce. The court already finalized our divorce!”

“If you keep harassing me, I will call the police.”

Ethan’s brows drew tight, his expression darkening. He looked genuinely bewildered, his voice

turning stern.

“Do we really have to do this? Do you really have to say such hurtful things to me?!”

My phone rang all of a sudden. It was my family nanny calling. I answered, and my son’s crying came through the speaker.

The nanny spoke. “Ma’am, he won’t drink his milk. He’s asking for you again.”

“Alright, I’m heading home right now.”

I hung up the phone.

Ethan’s face lit up with sudden delight.

“I knew those were just angry words.”

“Thank you, Yvonne. Thank you for giving me a son.”
