Three Years in Europe for Everyone—Except His Pregnant Wife Chapter 06

Three Years in Europe for Everyone—Except His Pregnant Wife Chapter 06

Three years later.

I was at the airport seeing Kai Peirce off on a business trip overseas. We’d gotten married two years

ago, and our son was one year and two months old.

After Ethan left for Paris, I’d met him at an elder relatives‘ 50–year wedding anniversary banquet.

He’d fallen for me the moment he laid eyes on me.

He’d pursued me relentlessly for an entire year.

Once the court finalized our divorce ruling because Ethan had failed to show up for the divorce proceedings, I’d accepted his advances.

I had just stepped out of the airport when my phone rang. An unfamiliar number popped up on the screen, and I answered it reflexively.

A familiar voice came over the line.

“Honey, I’m home. Why aren’t you at the house?”

A bitter laugh tugged at my lips.

“Who’s your honey? Ethan, I’m not playing this game with you. You can have the thickest skin on

the planet, but that still doesn’t mean I owe you any of my attention!”

I was about to hang up when Rae’s shrill scream cut through the background noise.

“Ah! Ethan, where’s our peach tree!”

“The peach tree’s gone!”

Along with Rae’s voice, I heard Ethan’s parents‘ complaining tones.

“The place is covered in dust. How could Yvonne let such a nice house fall into this state?”

“Ethan, go check inside the place. It’s an absolute mess!”

“Ask Yvonne where she’s moved to. How could she let our home get like this!”

Ethan pressed me urgently over the phone.

“Yvonne, you haven’t been living here? Where are you staying?”

“I live with my husband,” I shot back, deliberately taunting him.

I hung up right away, unwilling to waste another word on him.

Seconds later, the phone rang again.

enabled blocks for all unknown incoming numbers. Ethan could no longer get through to me at all.

Ethan kept calling over and over, but none of his calls went through.

Instead of flying into a rage, he told himself he understood where I was coming from. He convinced himself that his wife was still holding onto anger from what had happened three years prior.

Rae grabbed hold of his arm, sobbing bitterly.

“Ethan, our peach tree is gone.”

“Why would Yvonne have someone cut it down?”

“Even if she hates me this much, she should take it out on me directly.”

“Why destroy our peach tree? We planted that tree together.”

“You once said this tree was like our child, that we would watch it bloom and bear fruit.”

“How could Yvonne be so cruel and chop down something we poured so many years of work into?”

Ethan could only offer her shallow comfort.

“Don’t be upset. We can plant another peach tree.”

Tears glistened in Rae’s eyes, and she cried even harder, hurt and wronged.

Ethan’s mother and father fussed over her for a long time, promising they would plant many more trees and flowers she liked around the property.

Only then did Rae manage to stop crying.

A vague sense of unease lingered in Ethan’s chest. He could tell Yvonne had changed, but he could

not put his finger on exactly how.

Ethan’s mother glanced around the Grant Estate with disgust and kept grumbling in front of Ethan.

“What a terrible mess our perfectly good house is in.

“You kept saying she was such a thoughtful wife. What kind of thoughtful woman would let a house

turn out like this?”

“And where on earth has she taken my grandchild?”

“She’s so cold–hearted. For three whole years, not a single phone call or message from her.”

“We don’t even know whether the baby was a boy or a girl!”

“We thought we’d get home and meet our grandchild right away, and look what we’ve got.‘

At the mention of the child, Ethan’s father grew anxious.

“Go bring that grandbaby back home at once. I’ve been dying to hold him.”

Rae made a suggestion.

“The house is filthy and chaotic. We ought to get it cleaned up first.”

“Little kids have weak immune systems. The baby needs a clean place to live.”

“I suspect Yvonne might be staying at her family’s place with the baby. Let’s get the house sorted out, then go fetch her and the child.”

Ethan’s mother agreed.

“Rae, you really do think of everything.”

“The house is in such a dreadful state, we can’t have a baby living here. Hire a home–cleaning service right away.”
