I Craved Crawfish, but He Fed It All to My Sister Chapter 06

I refused the matching.

But Derek used my stored blood samples from the hospital and sent them off for testing in secret.

The results showed I was a preliminary match with Maren.

He came to find me while I was at a post-op follow-up.

“If further testing clears you, you can donate hematopoietic stem cells.”

“The risk is lower than a bone marrow harvest.”

I looked at my name on the report. “Did I agree to this?”

Derek’s expression flickered. “It’s just a preliminary screening.”

“You took my biological samples and ran tests without my consent.”

“Derek, have you lost every last sense of boundaries?”

“She doesn’t have time.”

“Neither did my baby.”

The exam room went silent. I handed the report to Evan. “Add this to the evidence.”

“He took my blood and ran tests without my consent. Add it to the rest of the evidence.”

Derek reached for me without thinking. Security moved between us in a second.

With the protection order in effect, he wasn’t even allowed near me anymore.

He stood a few steps away, his eyes bloodshot.

“Sloane, I’m just trying to repay a life debt.”

“That’s your debt. Not mine.”

“And besides, she already took my baby.”

“I won’t give her anything else.”

Derek’s throat worked. “Once she’s stable, I’ll take care of everything.”

“Then I’ll take you down south.”

“Haven’t you always wanted to see the ocean?”

“The baby’s gone.”

His shoulders went rigid. “I know.”

“No, you don’t.”

I stared at him. “You don’t know what I was thinking when they wheeled me into that operating room.”

“You don’t know what our baby looked like at the end.”

“You know all Maren’s fears. You know she’s scared of pain, scared of storms, scared of scars.”

“But I’m scared too, Derek.”

His face went white. He couldn’t say a word.

That same day, I had Evan file for divorce and apply for an asset freeze.

The fetal heartbeat records. The forensic medical report. The bathroom recording. The cloud footage. The

unauthorized lab results. All of it went into the evidence file.

Three days later, I left the hospital.

As I walked out of the building, I looked back once.

Derek wasn’t there.

He was with Maren for her second round of tests.

I turned off my phone and got into Evan’s car.

An hour later, Derek arrived at my room with pumpkin porridge, the kind I used to love.

The nurse told him, “Mr. Sterling, she didn’t transfer to another ward.”

“She’s already gone.”
