He Gave Me a Beaded Toy Car and Bought Her a Luxury Car Chapter 05

Tristan’s eyes lost focus. His voice shook. “What did you say?”

“How could you get a divorce decree by yourself?”

“Babe, you’re lying to me, right?”

I was right. He’d completely forgotten about the divorce settlement he’d signed years ago.

“Babe, stop this. We’re not getting divorced.” In seconds, the shock on his face hardened into certainty.

“The papers are real. I just picked them up. Go ask the clerk inside if you don’t believe me.” I gave him a helpful smile.

“Six years ago, you gave me a little gift. A signed divorce settlement. So no, I don’t need your approval now.”

Something clicked in his memory. His face went pale.

“That was years ago. It can’t still be valid.”

“Signed during marriage. Notarized by a law firm. Everything perfectly legal. Whether it’s valid isn’t up to you.”

I was done talking. My team was waiting at the restaurant.

“Anyway, the divorce papers are in your hands now. You’re free to be with Faye out in the open.”

I turned to leave. Tristan’s voice cracked. “What are you talking about?! There’s nothing between me and Faye! Why won’t you believe me?!”

His shouting drew stares from passersby. He tried to explain. “I’ve told you a hundred times—Faye is like a sister to me. She has a boyfriend. Our relationship is completely innocent.”

He reached for my hand. I pulled away. He awkwardly withdrew his hand.

“Babe, I mean it. I already bought tickets. I was planning to go home with you to visit your parents for the holidays.”

He pulled out his phone and showed me the booking records. The tickets to my hometown showed “pending.” Right above them? Two tickets to Miami for him and Faye, departing tomorrow.

And above that? A long history of trips with Faye. All on dates when he’d told me he had “business trips.” So those were all lies. Excuses to take Faye on vacation.

“The divorce is done. I’ve resigned from the company. As for asset division, my lawyer will be in touch.”

I left without looking back. I could feel his eyes on me the whole way.

“Boss, let’s just head to the restaurant. They’ve probably already ordered.” I nodded and followed my team.

Over the years, Tristan had opened countless doors for Faye. The boundaries between them had blurred long ago. The only thing left was the title of “husband.” And that last wall? It had been crumbling for years.

The restaurant wasn’t far. I walked in just as the server was bringing out dishes. The table was full of basic food. Nothing expensive. My team was trying to save me money.

I grabbed a menu and ordered a few more dishes. A celebration was in order. I’d officially gotten divorced.

The server brought out lobster, king crab, and steamed fish. Dishes my team would never order for themselves. One of them reached out to stop the server. “You’ve got the wrong table. We didn’t order these.”

The server looked confused, checked with the kitchen, and smiled. “No mistake, sir.”

I waved them back. “Relax. One dinner isn’t going to bankrupt me.” I knew they felt bad for me after the divorce. They wanted to keep costs down. But I could afford a meal.

“And swap in two good bottles of wine. I’ll take the check.”

A familiar voice came from the doorway. Everyone turned.
