Liam went home hollow and broken.

He’d always said they didn’t need to explain their relationship to outsiders. That other people’s opinions didn’t matter.

But now the whole world knew the truth, and Victoria was public enemy number one.

When false accusations piled up-claims she’d slept with judges to win her title-she couldn’t

handle it anymore.

She went to Liam one last time. “Liam, please help me again. Tell them I’m not the other woman.

Emma’s never coming back-just say we’re really together. She’ll never know.”

He refused outright. “I’m not throwing Emma under the bus again.”

He didn’t see how close Victoria was to breaking.

She ended up taking her own life in a gas-stove incident at home.

Liam still came to me every day with apologies and flowers.

Over and over and over.

“You couldn’t really be done with me,” he’d say. “You’re just angry. If I wait long enough, you’ll

soften.”

So I asked Alexander for help. “Is that fake-boyfriend offer still on the table?”

He smiled. “Always.”

He set up a proposal scene, and made sure to invite Liam to watch.

Alexander recited a long, heartfelt love letter, then knelt with a ring in his hand. “Emma Holloway, will you be with me?”

Even knowing it was just an act, something stirred in my chest.

When I said yes, Liam tried to charge the stage.

Security grabbed him before he could get close.

Alexander smirked, stepping firmly in front of me. “Emma’s with me now, Liam. Stay away from

her.”

I took Alexander’s arm. “I’ve made my choice, Liam. Don’t come near me again.”

Liam finally broke completely. He stopped resisting and let the guards drag him out.

Later I heard he’d tracked down the worst online bullies and threatened them with intimidation.

He got arrested by Crestwood PD for harassment and doxxing, and was stripped of his accreditation

by the Designers’ Association in the process.

My life finally went quiet. No more interruptions.

I knocked on Alexander’s door. “Thank you. I don’t know how else I’d have made him stop.”

His voice was soft. “If you ever want me to keep pretending-or if you want it to be real-the offer’s

still there.”

I blinked. Saw his ears turn red.

I didn’t answer right away. I thanked him again and turned to leave.

Maybe one day I’d say yes. Maybe I wouldn’t.

But whatever came next, I wouldn’t carry the wounds of my last relationship into it.
