He Made Me Draw A Lottery For Our Dead Child Chapter 06

Bastian froze, panic and uncertainty breaking through his usual composure.

When he still didn’t take them, I gave him a bitter smile.

“Relax. You’re the brilliant attorney here. We both know I couldn’t slip anything past you in a legal

agreement.”

“Just sign them. I don’t want to look at you anymore.”

His lips pressed into a thin line as every muscle in his body tensed.

“Elowen, you’re upset right now. We can talk about the divorce later.”

“You wanted me to take your father’s case. Withdraw the divorce papers, and I’ll represent him.”

I looked up at him and found him utterly repulsive.

“My father may be dying. Do you think the lawsuit matters to me now?”

“Sign the papers. I can’t spend another minute married to you.”

He didn’t move.

Before either of us could say more, the operating room doors opened.

I rushed to the surgeon.

“How is my father?”

The doctor removed his mask, and the gravity in his expression filled me with dread.

“We saved his life.”

“But despite the rescue cushion, a fall from that height caused extensive internal trauma. The most

serious damage was to his brain.”

“He also appears to have been under severe emotional distress before the fall, which may have

worsened his condition.”

“At this point, he remains completely unresponsive. His condition is consistent with what most

people would call a vegetative state.”

The diagnosis left me reeling.

“A vegetative state…”

I didn’t scream or break down.

The tears simply came, carrying all the grief and helplessness I couldn’t put into words.

Dad had worked hard his entire life, only to end up like this.

Behind me, Bastian had gone pale.

He stood perfectly still, too afraid to come closer or touch me.

“Elowen, try not to lose hope. People in vegetative states can still regain consciousness.”

I didn’t turn around.

My voice was raw and cold when I spoke to him for the last time.

“Get out.”

“Why isn’t it you lying in there, Bastian? Why couldn’t you be the one dying?”

The color drained from his lips, and he swayed on his feet.

For five years, I’d respected every decision he made. I’d taken care of him and never once spoken to

him with such cruelty.

But now Bastian finally seemed to realize that he’d destroyed everything between us.

I wanted him dead. The thought seemed to haunt him, leaving him breathless with panic.

Dad was transferred to the ICU.

Wearing a protective gown, I sat beside his bed and held his hand as my tears fell.

“I’m sorry, Dad.”

He had opposed my marriage to Bastian from the beginning.

He believed the difference in our social standing was too great, and he never thought Bastian truly

loved me.

But I’d been too consumed by what I thought was love to listen.

I had gambled everything on marrying him.

All it gave me was five years of coldness, five years of drawing tokens whenever I needed my own husband, and five years of never being the person he chose.

“I was wrong…”

“I should’ve listened to you.”

I pressed my face against Dad’s calloused hand. It felt cold in mine.

Please don’t leave me.”

“Please, Dad. Wake up.”
