People online dug through Sienna’s past, and before long, she was being condemned everywhere as

homewrecker.

She lost all her modeling work and was hit with a massive breach-of-contract penalty.

With nowhere else to turn, she went to Julian and begged him to help her.

He shoved her away.

“Sienna Cole! If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be in this mess. And you still have the nerve to come

asking me for help?”

He seized her by the chin, his eyes ice-cold.

“I defended you and took your side all those years because I thought you were the one who donated

a kidney to me. And now I find out the whole thing was a lie.”

“You deserve to die.”

Sienna finally dropped the innocent act.

She burst into a hysterical laugh.

“You think this is all my fault? Did I force you to cancel those weddings? I said a few things, and you

chose to believe every word!”

“This is on you. All of it!”

“Julian Prescott, you’ve always been arrogant. Look where it got you!”

Julian had no interest in hearing another word. He had her thrown out.

Later, after completely unraveling, Sienna got behind the wheel in a daze. Her car went off a cliff, killing her instantly.

Julian came looking for me too.

By then, all his arrogance was gone. He stood in front of me begging for another chance.

“Mara, I know I was wrong. Everything I did was wrong. Please forgive me. Just this once.”

I looked at the man in front of me.

His clothes were rumpled, and he looked completely unkempt. Nothing remained of the polished,

privileged heir he used to be.

My voice was cold, without a trace of pity.

“Julian, what makes you think one apology means I have to forgive you? Where does that confidence even come from?”

“You just can’t stand losing everything you had.”

“And there’s a death between us that can never be undone. I wish you’d gone to hell a long time ago.”

“Get out of my life. I never want to see you again.”

Julian stumbled back two steps.

The last trace of hope disappeared from his eyes, leaving nothing but emptiness behind.

I turned and walked away without another glance.

Not long afterward, I heard about him again.

Julian had overdosed on sleeping pills in an attempt to take his own life. Someone found him in

time to save him, but the overdose caused irreversible brain damage, leaving him in a persistent

vegetative state.

I was silent for two seconds when I heard.

Then again, what did any of that have to do with me?

He had brought every bit of it on himself.

Elliot’s warm voice called to me from nearby.

“Mara, come here. I made your favorite barbecue ribs.”

I looked up at the man who had only ever had eyes for me, and a smile slowly spread across my face.

“Coming!”

Love can make you lose yourself.
