His voice was terrifyingly cold.

“The proof is right there in front of you, and you’re still going to lie?”

I looked away.

I had no interest in watching any more of their mess.

“That’s all I came here to say.”

“Go ahead. Finish your wedding.”

I took Elliot’s hand and turned to leave.

“Mara! Wait!”

Julian snapped out of it and rushed toward me, reaching for my wrist.

Elliot immediately stepped in front of me, putting himself squarely between Julian and me. His

whole demeanor turned ice-cold as he blocked Julian’s path.

“Don’t touch her.”

Julian’s eyes were bloodshot.

“Get out of my way! I need to talk to Mara!”

Elliot’s expression stayed cold, his voice controlled and cutting.

“She’s my wife now.”

“Don’t call her Mara. You lost that right.”

He shoved Julian back and turned to leave with me.

“Stop! Mara Bennett, stop right there!”

Julian’s mother rushed forward and planted herself in our path, furious.

She ignored Elliot and glared straight at me.

“Mara! Fine, you were wronged. But did you have to choose today to expose all of this in public?”

“Whatever happened between you, you could have handled it privately! Were you determined to humiliate the Prescott family in front of everyone and destroy our reputation?”
