My Bodyguard Keeps My Secrets And My Underwear Chapter 07

“Harper!” The officer turned on me, their eyes sharp. “Did you put them up to this?”

Preston cut in before I could answer, practically spitting. “Of course it was her – who else would do something this sick?”

“If I ordered it, why would I be the one who got security?” I kept my voice even. “Think about that for second.”

The officer paused.

They could see the logic.

The three girls panicked the second they realized I wasn’t covering for them. They rushed over and latched onto my arms.

“You can’t just throw us under the bus! We did this FOR you – you don’t get to pretend you didn’t!”

Declan moved to pull them off me, but I held up a hand.

I’d handle this myself.

“Declan.” Hazel’s voice went soft, almost pleading. “You see what she’s like. Why are you still following her around? You’re better than being someone’s guard dog.”

She was staring at him, hurt filling her eyes.

She wanted to set him free to make him stand up for himself and stop answering to me.

Preston’s jaw tightened the second he noticed where Hazel’s attention really was.

She wasn’t looking at him.

She was looking at Declan.

He pulled Hazel against his chest in one possessive motion and locked eyes with Declan over her head.

I watched Declan’s face, terrified something in him would break.

That something would shift behind his eyes and he’d choose her.

I hadn’t been kind to him – I knew that.

But we’d grown up together.

“Miss gave me a home,” Declan said, turning to face Hazel. “She put a roof over my head and put me through college. Protecting her isn’t up for debate.”

“And for the record – your tuition? That came from Miss, too. If she wanted to hurt you, she wouldn’t need anyone else to do it.”

Hazel went still.

“That’s not – Harper despises me. There’s no way she’d pay for my education. That was you, Declan.”

This back–and–forth was giving me a migraine.

I turned back to the three girls still clinging to my arms.

First things first.

“This dress is a custom piece. It cost more than your tuition. If you wrinkle it, you’re paying for it.”

They dropped me like I was on fire.

Good.

Now they were listening.

“First I never told you to touch Hazel.”

“Second

you were kicked out of the sorority a month ago for stealing. I haven’t seen you since. And NOW you show up, attack someone, and slap MY name on it?”

“Do you really think you can use me and get away with it?” My voice dropped, and I watched all three of them flinch.

They knew me. I never let anything slide, and right now, they were dealing with my absolute worst.

All three went pale. One of them stammered, “Okay okay, you didn’t tell us to. But Hazel IS throwing herself at Preston, and we were just trying to look out for you

“Looking out for me?” I almost laughed. “You jumped a girl in a bathroom and dumped the blame on me. That’s your idea of looking out for me?”

I held their gaze until every last one of them dropped their eyes.

Nobody said another word.

I turned to the officer. “You saw everything. I reported this – I didn’t start it. And I’m not taking the fall.”

The officer nodded slowly, then turned to the crowd.

“Harper is not responsible for this. If anything, she’s the reason this didn’t get worse she reported it.”

They led Hazel and the three girls toward the administration office.

Son accident fut un mensonge. Sa revanche sera un chef–d’œuvre.

Preston watched me walk away clean, and his expression turned dangerous.

Anything involving Hazel made him lose all reason.

He grabbed my wrist and dragged me toward the stairwell.

Declan caught my other arm and yanked me back, his fist already cocked.

“Declan. Stay.”

I caught his eye and shook my head once.

Don’t.

His jaw ticked for a long moment before he let go.

Once he backed off, I turned and followed Preston up the stairs.

I didn’t see Declan’s face behind me didn’t see the way it hollowed out, the way every trace of composure vanished the second I was out of reach.

The rooftop was Preston’s territory. Nobody went up there except him and his frat brothers.

The rooftop door slammed shut behind us, and Preston shoved me into the wall.

The back of my skull cracked against the concrete, and my vision blurred.

I hadn’t expected him to actually get physical.

[DO NOT forgive the male lead for this!!]

[SCREW this guy

don’t you DARE touch her!]

[Girl, there are a million men out there. Stop wasting yourself on this one.]
