My Bodyguard Keeps My Secrets And My Underwear Chapter 06

I watched Declan and Hazel share a look, and something in my chest tightened without warning.

“Are you done staring? Let’s go.” I shot Declan a glare and turned on my heel.

Declan didn’t move right away. His gaze stayed on Hazel for one more beat before he fell into step behind

me.
He drove in silence for most of the ride, glancing at the rearview mirror every so often. He didn’t speak until the tension finally left my face.

“Miss. It’s the twelfth. Your appointment.”

I knew exactly what he meant. Every month on the twelfth, I went to a tarot reader for a love reading. My mom got me hooked when I was a kid, and the habit stuck.

“Let’s go.” I needed the distraction. Anything to stop replaying that look between him and Hazel.

The tarot reader finished laying out the cards, then lit up. She glanced over my shoulder at Declan, then back at me, barely able to contain herself.

“Miss Harper – love is here. Your true match is right beside you

The comments erupted.

the person closest to you!”

[The AUDACITY. The cards actually pointed to the male lead the villain threatened the tarot reader into changing the result!!]

[And she’s totally going to believe it too. This girl consults tarot before she picks an outfit.]

[Just love him back PLEASE. The man is unraveling – he’s literally rigging psychic readings for her now.]

Unraveling?

I stole a look at him. His face was blank. He wasn’t even looking in my direction.

All I saw in his eyes was boredom.

He looked like he couldn’t care less.

But some small, stupid part of me hoped the comments were right.

That maybe just maybe – Declan actually wanted me.

The next day, just as my last morning lecture ended, the comments went haywire.

[Oh no oh no

the villainess’s old sorority cronies are jumping the female lead in the bathroom!!]

[Guess who’s getting blamed for this.]

[I’ve read enough of these tropes to know this is EXACTLY how the villainess gets her reputation locked in. After this, both the male lead AND the villain turn on her.]

I ran for the bathroom.

Sure enough muffled screams from inside.

I didn’t go in myself. Instead, I grabbed the first campus security guard walking past.

“I think someone’s being hurt in there – can you check?”

The guard pushed past the “CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE” sign and went in. Moments later, they hauled out three girls and Hazel, soaking wet and shaking, dirty water dripping from her hair.

I recognized all three. Former members of my sorority – I’d kicked them out months ago for shoplifting. They’d dragged the whole sorority’s name through the mud.

The scene drew a crowd fast.

Preston was there.

So was Declan.

The three girls spotted me and practically bounced over, grinning like they’d done me a favor.

“Harper! Hazel’s been sneaking around Preston behind your back AND blowing off everything you say – we taught her a lesson for you, just like you wanted!”

Every head turned toward me.

SO

Hazel’s included–soaked, humiliated, and staring straight at me with tears cutting clean lines through the grime on her face.

“What did I ever do to you, Harper?!” Hazel’s voice cracked, raw and ragged, like every unfair thing that had ever happened to her was spilling out at once. “Why do you keep coming after me?!”

[Does she really have to take the fall for this??]

[She literally SAVED the female lead and she’s still being painted as the villain. I can’t watch this.]
