She Drew Our Love, She Drew Our End Chapter 04

Not long after I hung up,

$1.5 million landed in my account.

I hurried out of the jewelry store, but Ethan grabbed my arm and shoved me back inside.

“You were actually going to sell the ring I gave you?”

I glanced back just as the store manager hurried over to greet him.

“Mr. Prescott.”

“Move.”

Clutching my phone, I twisted hard, trying to wrench free.

Sloane leaned against the doorway.

“My boy, nothing tests true love like a little pressure.”

She swept her hair back, and the diamond on her finger caught the light.

It was the exact same design as mine.

I had no time for either of them. I needed to get back to the hospital.

I threw whatever was in my hand at Sloane.

Ethan released me at once.

I darted through the gap, only to find his security team closing in around me.

I shouted,

“Get out of my way!”

Sloane smiled.

“Didn’t you say your dad had a heart condition?”

“You were begging for money before. You don’t seem very worried now.”

The guards shoved me back inside. Ethan looked down at me as if he were handing down a sentence.

“I already called the hospital. There’s nothing wrong with your father.”

“Consider it punishment. You’re staying in here for a while.”

Something in me snapped. I pounded on the locked glass door with both hands.

“Ethan Prescott, open the door! My dad is waiting for me to bring the money back for his treatment!”

“Please! I’m begging you, open the door!”

He looked at me with disgust.

“Emma Reed, I don’t know what to believe anymore. I can’t tell when you’re lying.”

“At this point, I’m starting to think you hired your parents to help scam me.”

“Does what I feel for you mean that little to you?”

I dropped to my knees and slammed my forehead against the floor again and again until blood pooled beneath me.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Prescott. I never should’ve gotten involved with you.”

“I shouldn’t have accused your best friend or insulted her. I should’ve stayed quiet and played the clown you wanted me to be.”

“I’m begging you. Let me out.”

Instead, he only grew angrier. He slammed his fist against the glass and walked away.

Sloane smiled at me viciously.

“I drew for your dad’s funeral today. Guess what? $9.99. That’s the whole budget.”

A chill shot up from my feet and settled in my chest.

“Why do you hate me this much?”

Her mouth twisted into a sneer.

“Because trash belongs in the gutter. It doesn’t get to reach for the moon.”

Outside, daylight slowly faded.

My blood smeared the glass. Several of my fingernails had torn loose.

By the time I finally reached the hospital, Mom was wiping Dad’s face.

I tried to smile.

“Mom, did Dad’s surgery go okay?”

But the second she saw me, tears spilled down her cheeks. Her lips trembled, but she couldn’t speak.

My knees hit the floor.

Three days later, when Ethan and Sloane returned to the jewelry store,

all they found was shattered glass streaked with blood, with scraps of flesh and broken fingernails caught among the shards.

Sloane draped an arm across his shoulders.

“My boy, don’t you dare go soft on me this time.”

“I drew for the wedding too. Looks like we’re doing it on a hundred bucks.”

Just then, Ethan’s phone rang. Daniel, his assistant, was calling.

“The doctor gave us the wrong information earlier.”

“Ms. Reed’s father did suffer a cardiac emergency. He died three days ago after the procedure was delayed because the required payment wasn’t made in time.”
