My Wife Longed for My Foster Brother Chapter 06 Too Late

Cassandra slapped him across the face, trembling with rage. “Don’t touch me! August is still missing, and you’re thinking about this?

Derek touched his cheek. A red mark was already rising. He let out a low, cold laugh.

“Cassandra, that day August was tied to the boxing ring, you were practically begging me to take you right there. Now he’s dead, and you’re suddenly playing the faithful widow?”

“August is not dead! He gave you hundreds of milliliters of his blood yesterday. Even if you hate him, you don’t get to wish death on him!”

‘Gave me blood?”

Derek stared at her, his expression strange. “I had a few scratches. I didn’t need much blood at all. You’re he one who insisted the doctor draw extra–just to impress me. You made that decision yourself. Don’t ell me you’ve already forgotten.”

Or is it,” he continued, his voice dropping, “that you feel guilty, and now you can’t admit it?”

A cruel smile spread across his face.

Cassandra, do you want me to remind you? You were married to him for three years and never let him ouch you once. But after two nights in my bed, you could barely walk. I wonder what expression my aseless brother would have had, if he’d seen you like that.”

Shut up, Derek!”

Oh–I forgot. He’s dead. He’ll never see it. What a shame.”

But don’t worry. I’ll print out every single one of those pictures and burn them in front of his grave-

She slapped him again.

I said shut up! Stop it!”

Cassandra was falling apart. Her trembling hands clamped over her ears like she could block out the truth.

But the truth was already there, and she couldn’t unsee it.

She had punished August for three years–not because he’d done anything wrong, but because she couldn’t punish the Sterling family. She couldn’t hate them for bringing their real son back. She couldn’t hate them for taking Derek’s status away. So she poured all her bitterness onto August instead.

And he had taken it. Every cold word, every silent treatment, every slap–he had taken it all and kept coming back, kept trying, kept loving her.

He noticed the things she added to her shopping cart. The next day, they’d appear on her vanity.

If she praised a painting or a sculpture, it would be at her door by the next evening.

She liked French food, so he flew to France and personally trained with Michelin–starred chefs. He spent a fortune to buy a vintage bottle of wine from the year she was born.

And what had she done in return?

She took the lipstick he gave her, said the color was ugly, and handed it off to the cleaning lady.

The Princess Diana sapphire pearl necklace he won at auction—she said dead people’s things were bad luck and didn’t speak to him for a week.

The meals he cooked–she took one bite, pretended to have a stomach ache, and deliberately swept the entire table onto the floor. She loved watching him panic.

And that wine? She only opened it two days ago, when Derek came back. They used it as a prop for their games, laughing at August’s stupidity as they drank it.

Cassandra burst into tears.

She swore to herself–if August came back alive, she would make it up to him. She would make him the happiest husband in the world.

“The divorce agreement.”

Derek’s voice cut through her thoughts. He was holding the document, a smug smile on his lips.

“Looks like August finally did one thing right. He set you free before he died. Now you’re just divorced- not widowed.”

“I was worried he’d go running to Mom and Dad to rat me out. But he’s gone now. The Sterling Group is mine. And you’re mine. Everything’s falling back into place.”

Cassandra slapped him again.

“Stop dreaming, Derek! I told you–he’s not dead!”

This time, Derek didn’t let it slide. He grabbed her throat and pinned her to the bed, his voice dangerous.

“That’s the third time today. You’ve slapped me three times for him. You think I won’t hurt you?”

His grip tightened. Cassandra couldn’t breathe. Her vision blurred.

“Say you love me, Cassandra,” he whispered.

Tears slid from her eyes. She shook her head. “I… I love August.”

“You’re lying!”

Derek flew into a rage and bit down on her lips.

The assistant burst in. “Miss Vance, the Civil Aviation Administration called again—”

He froze at the scene in front of him.

Drick turned and glared ‘Can’t you see we’re busy? Get the hell out!”

Cassandra shoved Derek away with all her strength. Ignoring the marks on her neck, she looked at her

assistant.

Is there news about August? How is he? Where is he?”

The assistant swallowed. He was more shocked than anyone. Just yesterday, Miss Vance hadn’t cared about August at all. And now-

“The Civil Aviation Administration said they’ve found the plane wreckage. So far, seventeen bodies have been recovered. They want you… they want you to come identify them.^
