My Wife Longed for My Foster Brother Chapter 05

My Wife Longed for My Foster Brother Chapter 05 Seventeen Bodies

Cassandra strode into the hospital room and looked around. Her gaze swept over the empty bed, the cleared shelves, the untouched pitcher of water. Then her eyes landed on the bowl of porridge in the

trash.

Her heart skipped a beat. Something was very wrong.

A document sat on the nightstand. She picked it up in confusion–and the moment she saw the words ‘Divorce Agreement,” all the color drained from her face.

Her first reaction was to check the date. It wasn’t April Fool’s Day.

She clenched her fist, letting out a bitter, furious laugh. “Very good, August. This is the third time you’ve bulled this stunt.”

She summoned her assistant. “Call him. Tell him that if he’s not back in this hospital within an hour, he can stay out of my sight for the rest of his life.”

she had already decided what would happen when he came back. She’d slap him a few times, put the fear of God into him, make sure he never tried anything this pathetic again. He knew perfectly well that Derek was her childhood friend. He should never have imagined he could compete with that.

She must have been too soft on him lately, she thought. He’d started thinking he could actually scare her with threats of cheating and divorce.

She resolved to give him the cold shoulder for an entire month once he came crawling back.

Miss Vance? Miss Vance?”

She blinked. Her assistant was staring at her, phone still in his hand.

What did he say?” she asked.

The assistant looked confused. “Mr. Sterling’s number… isn’t going through.”

Cassandra went still. A full minute passed in silence. Then she spoke, her voice cold as frost. “Call again. Keep calling until he answers.”

Just then, the phone in her hand rang. She snatched it up and started shouting without even checking the

caller ID.

“You still have the nerve to call back? Fine. If you want to leave, then get the hell out and stay gone. Better yet, never show your face–”

“Hello, ma’am. This is the Civil Aviation Administration. Mr. August Sterling’s flight crashed at 10 a.m. this morning. At present, the number of survivors on board is unknown…”

The phone slipped from her hand and hit the floor with a crack.

A wave of dizziness slammed into her, and she collapsed to the ground.

she didn’t know how inuch time had passed.

“Cassandra… Cassandra..

Through the fog of her consciousness, she heard someone calling her name. Half–awake, she saw a figure leaning over her. She grabbed his hand instinctively.

‘August!”

The person’s body went rigid. “Cassandra… it’s me.”

She blinked. Finally, her vision focused.

She was lying in a hospital bed. Derek was sitting beside her, his face full of concern. She looked at him- he face she’d thought she’d spent years loving–and instead, what surfaced in her mind was August’s quiet, gentle eyes.

Her heart skipped. Like she’d done something wrong, she yanked her hand out of his.

Derek’s expression flickered, but his voice stayed soft. “Cassandra, what’s wrong? Are you in pain?”

She shook her head. She couldn’t explain it.

Something dark passed through his eyes. He turned to her assistant. “Leave us. I need to talk to Cassandra lone.”

The assistant, knowing Derek was the person Cassandra held most dear, slipped out and closed the door

ehind him.

The moment they were alone, Derek stood and loosened his collar. His tall shadow loomed over her.

he snapped back to herself–but too late. He was already on top of her, his mouth at her ear.

f this had been before, she would have been burning with desire. Today, she felt only revulsion. She >ressed her hands against his chest, trying to push him away.

Don’t,” she said. “Have you lost your mind? I’m your brother’s wife!”

Derek stared at her. Then he laughed–cold, mocking. “My brother’s wife?”

He reached down and tore open her blouse, exposing the red rose tattoo on her chest.

Then can you tell me,” he said, “who this tattoo was for?”

‘And this-”

His hand slipped up her skirt.
