I didn’t contact Grayson in the following days.

Well, technically, I just erased him from my world on my end. He still existed, just not for me.

The day I returned the jacket, I met Miles at the study lounge.

I handed over the bag, still not brave enough to look directly at that devastating face.

“Thanks again. I got you some fruit tea.”

A flicker of surprise crossed Miles’s eyes. The corner of his mouth twitched, just barely.

I caught it.

My brain short–circuited for a second.

He had a backpack slung over his shoulder. Maybe he’d come to study, too.

I threw out a casual invite. “Wanna study together?”

I figured a cold, untouchable campus heartthrob like him would obviously prefer to be alone and

make some excuse to bail.

But Miles didn’t hesitate for even a second.

“Sure.”

Now I was stuck. I had to suck it up and let him sit beside me.

He’d barely pulled out his chair when he dropped a random comment. “Grayson’s got a lot of things

to handle lately.”

My hand froze mid–page–turn.

“He’s busy with the photography club’s recruitment.”

The comments exploded:

[Here we go! The female lead’s about to interview for the photography club. That’s where they fall into each other!]

[No wonder the male lead hasn’t been around. He found his real soulmate.]

[Oh no. Later on, the side character’s gonna go full crazy and try to break them up.]

[This side character’s obsession is stinkier than a three–day–old gym sock.]

I dropped my gaze and let my voice go cold. “What he does has nothing to do with me.”

Miles seemed to pick up that I didn’t want to go there, so he pivoted the conversation effortlessly.

When we stepped out of the study lounge, I gave him a polite nod. “See you around.‘

Something warm flickered in the depths of his eyes, barely noticeable.

“Yeah.”
