The Mafia Donna’s Bridal Escape Night Chapter 08

The Mafia Donna’s Bridal Escape Night Chapter 08

That afternoon, Liora posted a secretly recorded video.

The clip showed only one thing: me pounding on the escape room door.

One line of caption: [Spent weeks planning a pre–wedding surprise. Bride destroyed everything in front of everyone. If you can’t handle it, don’t play. Why fake an allergic reaction and stick everyone with hundreds of thousands in losses?]

Within an hour, the video had spread through the entire circle of guests originally invited to the

Ashford–Conti wedding.

The two families‘ business partnership was supposed to launch off the back of this ceremony. Everyone had been waiting for news.

Now they had their “answer.”

Some said I overreacted.

Some said Liora was just trying to set a mood.

Others decided Joren must have taken the blame himself to keep me pacified, throwing his own

childhood best friend under the bus.

Someone turned me into a meme. Caption: “Runaway bride meltdown, uncut.”

If this had been before, I probably would have called Joren first. Begged him to make Liora take it down. Waited for him to tell me not to make a big deal out of it. Then sat alone, swallowing my hurt

until morning.

Not this time. I didn’t call him.

The Conti family’s legal team released a statement.

One: the escape room had not passed inspection. The emergency intercom was deliberately disabled. After I explicitly demanded to leave, I continued to be locked inside.

Two: lab analysis of the drink confirmed the presence of hazelnut. My emergency medication was confiscated by Liora Whitmore without authorization. Hospital records had been submitted to

investigators.

Three: the damage I caused to the escape room occurred during a worsening anaphylactic reaction when rescue personnel could not gain entry. My actions were an attempt to trigger the hotel’s security system as a means of self–rescue.

Four: the unauthorized distribution of private recordings, the dissemination of false information,

and defamatory content – all supporting evidence had been preserved in full.

The final line was the Conti legal team’s position: “Every individual is accountable for their own actions.”

The attorneys asked if I wanted to release the complete surveillance footage. Let everyone see exactly what I looked like during the allergic reaction.

I said no.

I didn’t need to put my suffering on public display a second time to prove that what happened that

night was real.

The only supplemental evidence released was a forty–seven–second audio clip and a timeline?

Eight forty–six p.m. – I requested the door be opened for the first time.

Eight forty–eight p.m. – Liora produced my emergency medication.

Eight fifty p.m. – I was exhibiting clear respiratory distress.

Eight fifty–one p.m. – Joren said, give it another minute.

Eight fifty–three p.m. – I lost consciousness.

There was no dramatic music in the recording. Just my gasping. Their laughter. And the sharp, clean sound of my body hitting the floor.

That one sound carried more weight than any argument ever could.

Everyone understood. This was no longer a game. It was an act of harm that had spiraled completely

out of control.

The people who had been defending Liora started deleting their comments.

Those who had placed bets began turning over their chat logs and payment records to the attorneys,

one by one.

The spectators finally realized they weren’t sitting in the audience. They were standing in the

evidence.

I didn’t accept a single apology.

An apology can be a way for someone to ease their own guilt. It is not a reason for me to let go of

accountability.

Less than two hours after the video was posted, Liora received a formal summons.

She stormed into the Ashford penthouse to find Joren, demanding he confirm for investigators that

this was nothing more than a game between friends.

Joren was sitting in the living room. In front of him, the full surveillance recording that the police had pulled.

When Liora walked in, he hit pause.

The frame froze on the moment I lifted my head and looked directly into the camera.

“Delete the video. Apologize to Lyra.”

“Why should I?”

Liora laughed in disbelief. “You saw the game plan ahead of time, didn’t you? Locking the door was

your call. Taking her phone was your idea. You personally sent me those photos.”

“I didn’t tell you to put hazelnut in the drink!”

“But when she was begging you, you’re the one who wouldn’t open the door.”

One sentence. Joren had nothing left to say.

Liora walked up to him. Her eyes were red now too.

“Joren, we’re the same kind of person.”

“Don’t wait until things blow up and dump all of it on me. If you really cared about her more than anything, do you think I could have messed with her for three months?”

“I moved into your place. You said I shouldn’t stay in a hotel alone because I wasn’t used to it.”

“When she got hurt trying to find you, you took care of drunk me first.”

“She lost the baby. You spent the whole night on the phone with me.”

“Time after time, you made me believe that no matter what I did, you’d always take my side.”

Joren stared at her like he was seeing someone he’d known for over a decade for the very first time.

“So that gave you the right to test my limits using her life?”

Liora laughed so hard the tears spilled over.

“Your limits? Your limits were just the assumption that she’d never leave you.”

The room was quiet for a long time.

“Get out.” Joren pointed at the door.

Liora didn’t push it further.

On her way out, she forwarded every chat log from the bachelor party group to the investigators.

“Nobody gets to play innocent.”

“If we’re taking responsibility, we’re all taking it.”

She wasn’t wrong.

In this whole disaster, there was never just one person holding the remote.
