The Mafia Donna’s Bridal Escape Night Chapter 05

The Mafia Donna’s Bridal Escape Night Chapter 05

When I opened my eyes, I was lying in the private lounge on the hotel’s top floor.

I looked at the clock on the wall. Three a.m. The next morning.

A private physician was packing up his medical kit. When he saw my eyes open, the relief on his face was visible.

“You’re awake.”

“The allergic reaction is under control, but your body is still very weak. The hazelnut content in that drink was significant. If it had gone undetected even a little longer, the consequences could have been severe.”

I said nothing. The images from before trickled back, one by one.

The escape room. The betting. The wrong answers. Everyone laughing. And Joren’s indifference.

The sound of the door opening cut through my thoughts.

Joren and Liora walked in together.

Joren clearly hadn’t slept. His black shirt was unbuttoned at the collar, eyes lined with exhaustion.

Liora still wore her elegant cocktail dress, though the smile on her face was dimmer than before.

“Lyra.” Seeing me awake, Joren crossed quickly to the bed. “How are you feeling?”

I looked at him. Said nothing.

He paused, then continued. “Last night – I know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have let them shut down

the intercom. I shouldn’t have trusted Liora to keep things under control.”

“I just… didn’t think it would go that far.”

“Didn’t think?” I let out a dry laugh.

“Joren, that’s what you say every single time.”

“She put my number online and let strangers harass me. You said she was just drunk.”

“She tricked me into thinking you’d been in an accident, made me drive through a storm to get

there. You said she was just playing around.”

“Last night, she locked me in a room, made me a spectacle for everyone to laugh at, and you still thought she just didn’t know where to draw the line.”

“You really didn’t know? No. That’s not it.”

“You just believed that no matter what she did, I’d forgive her in the end.”

Joren lowered his head. Stood frozen.

A long time passed before he spoke, voice low.

“I’ll take care of this. I’ll make Liora apologize, and I’ll resolve the agreement issue between the

Contis and the Ashfords.”

“Get some rest first. The wedding – I’ll push it back.”

“No need.” I cut him off.

Then I took out my phone and dialed my second–in–command, Naomi.

“I got the message. Do you need me there now?”

“I do. Two things.”

My voice was calm.

“First, compile all the evidence from last night. Hotel surveillance, escape room operation logs, staff testimony, and every document Liora Whitmore produced.”

“Second, notify the family council. Prepare the dissolution of the engagement agreement.”

I hung up.

The color drained from Joren’s face, one shade at a time.

Before he could speak, Liora was already rushing forward.

“Seriously, Lyra? You’re actually going through with this? You’re really going to blow everything up over this?”

She frowned, her voice still thick with disbelief.

“Fine, I admit last night was a little much. But it was just a game.”

“Is it worth breaking off the engagement? The wedding’s been announced. Doing this hurts both families. You really think that’s worth it?”

“Even now, you still think that was a game?”

Her mouth opened, as if she had something else to say.

The next second, the door slammed open.

“Mrs. Elise is in critical condition!”

“She couldn’t find her granddaughter. She left her room on her own, and she collapsed at the

elevator bank.”

“We performed first aid, but without her specific medication, it’s not looking good.”
