The Godfather Who Never Lost Begged Me Not to Leave Him Chapter 07

She stared at me. “Nerissa, you…”

“Me what?” I stared back. “I’m curious. You walked away without hesitation when you dumped

him. Did you come back because that man dumped you? Or because Europe didn’t turn out the way you thought it would?”

“Or maybe… you saw Leander had made it back on top and decided you had no shame about crawling back to your ex?”

“Nerissa!” she screamed, raising a hand at me.

The slap never landed.

A hand shot past me from behind and clamped around her wrist.

The grip was hard enough to yank her half a step forward.

Leander’s voice came from behind me, low and cold.

“Cressida, what are you doing?”

Her expression changed instantly.

Her voice went sharp and wounded. “Leander, she insulted me first! She…”

“I know Nerissa.” Leander cut her off. “She wouldn’t come after you for no reason.”

Disbelief flashed across Cressida’s face. “You trust her that much? You haven’t even known her that long. You believe her over me?”

I had no interest in listening to them argue, so I looked down and tapped a few things on my phone.

Then I said calmly, “I spent a lot of money finding all this. It’d be a shame to keep it to myself. We might as well all take a look.”

I created a group chat with Leander, Cressida, and me.

Then I dumped in every screenshot, link, and timeline the private investigator had sent me.

Message after message filled the screen.

A timeline showing Cressida moving in with the man almost immediately after breaking up with

Leander.

Photos showing the man sleeping with Cressida one night, then marrying a pregnant woman the

very next day.

Cressida went silent. Her hands started shaking. “No…”

I left the group chat.

I slipped my phone into my pocket, turned, and walked away.

Behind me, Cressida’s voice came fast and panicked. “Leander, let me explain! That stuff might not

even be real. She could’ve paid someone to fake it…”

Leander told her to get out.

I crossed the lobby, pushed through the doors, and headed for the garage.

I was almost at my car when hurried footsteps sounded behind me.

Leander caught up just as I opened the driver’s door and planted one hand against it.

Breathing hard, he said, “Rissa, don’t go.”

“I didn’t ask her to come. Cressida and I have been over for a long time. I only ever saw her as a

friend.”

I turned to him and casually brought up one of his female friends.

“You’re friends with Lena too.”

“Would you ever threaten to divorce me over her?”

“Would you leave me outside a restaurant alone on New Year’s Eve because of her and tell me to go

home and cool off?”

He had nothing to say.

I gave him a bitter smile. “Leander, when it comes to love, you never know when to let go. You can accept that it’s over with her, but you still can’t stand to lose her.”

“You’re too smart and too well connected for me to believe you never knew she got with someone else soon after she left. And I don’t believe you never realized she cared more about what she could get than about you. You just couldn’t let her go.”

Something in his eyes shook.

“Ten years of history was too heavy for you, and it became too heavy for our marriage too.”

I reached over and peeled his fingers off the door.

Then I shut it and started the engine.

in the rearview mirror, he stood exactly where I’d left him.

I didn’t look again. I hit the gas and drove away.
