The Godfather Who Never Lost Begged Me Not to Leave Him Chapter 06

“She’s not my advisor anymore.” He paused. “Rissa, stop this.”

I took a slow breath.

I forced myself to stay calm.

“I’m telling you one more time. I’m serious about divorcing you.”

“If you refuse to discuss it, I’ll file.’

His expression darkened. As if my words simply weren’t getting through to him, he kept going.

“I didn’t think enough about your feelings before. I was wrong.”

“If you never want to see Cressida again, I’ll make sure you don’t. I won’t meet her privately

either.”

“If you want to know where I am, what I’m doing, who I’m with, I’ll tell you everything.”

He meant it.

I knew he did.

But divorce wasn’t a negotiation. You couldn’t agree on new terms and pretend the damage had

never happened.

I shook my head, stood, and turned to leave.

He shot to his feet so fast he nearly tripped over the chair, then grabbed me.

“Rissa, we can talk about this.”

I looked back at him coldly. “There’s nothing left to talk about.”

“Since you won’t discuss the divorce, I’ll have my attorney draft the agreement. If you refuse to sign it, I’ll file.”

His hand stayed locked around my wrist.

“But I suggest you sign.” I paused, lowering my voice. “Leander, I don’t want this to get ugly.”

At that, the color slowly drained from his face.

His hand fell away.

I turned and left.

I’d barely reached the lobby when I ran straight into Cressida.

The smile vanished from her face the instant she saw me. Her stare turned icy.

I kept my eyes ahead and moved to pass her.

She stepped sideways and blocked me.

“Nerissa, I didn’t realize you were this manipulative.”

I stopped and looked at her.

“Did you make Leander throw me out of the family? Is that why he’s treating me like this now?” she stepped closer. “Nerissa, how did you pull it off?”

I frowned.

“I didn’t do anything.”

“If you have a problem with him, go ask him yourself.”

She laughed coldly. “Don’t play innocent.”

“I always knew you weren’t as harmless as you looked. What kind of innocent woman steals Leander away from someone else?”

My expression hardened.

“You were the one who broke up with Leander.”

“I never stole him from anyone. Not then, and I have no intention of fighting over him now.”

She opened her mouth, but I cut her off.

“You were the one who walked away without looking back. Now you regret it, so you came running

back.”

“We both know exactly what you want. Don’t perform for me.”

Her face went white for a second. She tried to answer, but nothing came out.

I held her gaze and lowered my voice, the threat unmistakable.

“By the way, didn’t you have a boyfriend in Europe? The man who got you that job.”

She went rigid.

“He got married last year. Beautiful wedding photos. Were you there?”

Her fingers twisted the hem of her trench coat. “You investigated me?”

“So what if I did?”

After seeing the group-chat gossip about how badly Leander had fallen apart over her, I’d gone out of my way to find out why they’d broken up.

Back then, someone had framed Leander’s family business, triggering a federal investigation that hit their operations hard and put the entire family on edge.

Right in the middle of it, Cressida received an excellent job offer in Europe. She chose to leave and broke up with Leander.

I also learned that while she was in Europe, she’d dated the same man who had offered her that opportunity overseas.

And when that man got married last year, Cressida wasn’t the bride.

Cressida had been dumped, and she’d come back for Leander.
