The Sister Who Pushed Me, The Fate That Swallowed Her Chapter 01

The Sister Who Pushed Me, The Fate That Swallowed Her Chapter 01

In my last life, the black mamba was looking for a breeder. My sister Sloane Mercer shoved me at him without a second thought.

I died horribly. But I came back. This time around, Sloane was the one throwing herself into the black mamba’s arms, begging him to want her.

Then I caught a glimpse of what a snake shifter looked like when he was aroused, and every nightmare from my last life hit me all at once. My whole body shook.

All I wanted was to run.

But Sloane grabbed my chin and held it.

“You came back too!” Her eyes locked on mine, dead certain. “And I’m going to make your life hell.”

“I’ll let you all live. But one of your women is going to be mine. Willingly.”

I clawed my way back from the dark, and the first face I saw was the one that had ruined my last life.

The black mamba pirate captain.

Same greedy eyes. Same unhinged grin. Like he already owned every person in this room.

Was I really back?

Was this the day the evacuation ark got seized by the pirates?

When the apocalypse hit, our parents gave up everything they had to get Sloane and me on the last evacuation ark off New Terra.

Space pirate shifters intercepted us before we cleared orbit.

Last time, Sloane shoved me straight at Derek Voss, the black mamba captain.

Then she ran to General Gideon Rourke, who had showed up to save us and never looked back.

But human women from New Terra were prized for one thing: our fertility. The Federation elite turned Sloane into a breeding machine.

Derek, meanwhile, hoarded me like I was the only thing in the universe worth having.

Sloane hated me for it. So she killed me.

This was the moment. Right here, where Sloane had shoved me from behind last time.

I stepped aside on instinct.

But before I could think, a body shoved past me. Sloane threw herself at the man resting on his massive, coiled black tail.

“Captain, I’ll be yours.”

She pitched her voice low, almost sweet. The bratty arrogance was gone, replaced by something she clearly thought counted as seduction.

My skin crawled.

Had she come back too?

She was staring up at Derek like he was everything she’d ever wanted. It would’ve been funny if it hadn’t been so insane.

Coming back hadn’t fixed a single thing about her. Still selfish. Still stupid.

“Good girl.” Derek’s laugh was sharp, almost feral. “I like a volunteer.”

His hand closed around her waist, then traveled wherever it wanted.

Even by interstellar standards, and those standards were loose, what he was doing would’ve made a spacer blush.

Sloane went rigid for half a second. Then she pressed closer.

Derek liked that.

He tossed her over his shoulder and headed for the door, his crew howling and whistling behind him.

“Wait!” Sloane’s voice cut through the noise.

She pointed straight at me, smirking.

“Darling, let Audra bathe me first. I want to be nice and clean for you.”

Derek didn’t even hesitate.

One look from him killed every thought of fighting back. I followed them without a word.

Sloane stripped in front of Derek like he wasn’t even there.

Then she looked over her shoulder at him, eyes half-lidded.

“Get cleaned up.” Derek’s voice had dropped to something low and rough. “I’ll take good care of you after.”

From where I stood, I could see exactly what a snake shifter looked like when he was fully aroused.

Every memory from my last life hit all at once. The blood left my face, and I dropped my gaze fast.

The second Derek was gone, Sloane grabbed my chin. She wrenched my face up toward hers.

“You came back too.” It wasn’t a question.

The hate in her eyes was pure and ugly.

I set my jaw and said nothing.

She kicked me down the steps.

Then she stood at the top, looking down.

“Last time, you got to play house with your precious pirate while I got passed around by the Federation elite. Bet you loved watching that, didn’t you?”

“This time, I get the one man who’ll never look at anyone else. And you? The Federation’s going to breed you until there’s nothing left. When they’re done, I’ll come pick up what’s left of you.”

I stared at her. The delusion was staggering.

Nobody became a space pirate by being gentle. And Derek was a black mamba. A massive one.

Had she never thought about what that actually meant? A human body wasn’t built to take a shifter that size.

I almost warned her.

But the hunger in her eyes stopped me cold.

Fine. If that was what she wanted.

Maybe Sloane would actually enjoy it.

“I’ll get you cleaned up. Derek’s not the patient type, and you don’t want to keep him waiting.”

She wanted to humiliate me. Fine. Compared to what was coming for her, washing her was nothing.

I picked myself up off the floor and steadied her.

My obedience pleased her. With her chin lifted, she told me to scrub every inch of her.

Derek came back soon enough.

“Get out.”

His eyes never left Sloane. He didn’t look at me once.

I was almost out the door when I glanced back. He was no longer in his half-human form. He had shifted completely into a massive black mamba.

In full animal form, shifters were twice their normal size.

The metal door sealed behind me. Through it, I heard Sloane scream. The sound went through my bones.

In my last life, I’d fought him. Even Derek, vicious as he was, had given me three days to adjust.

When he finally took me to bed, he’d stayed in human form.

The hybrid form only came out when he was furious, and even that had nearly broken me.

But Sloane’s first time was already this…

I let out a breath and prayed she could take it.

Because if she couldn’t, if she brought out Derek’s worst instincts, what came next would make dying look merciful.

But it was too late for second thoughts.

Male shifters mated for life. One partner. No exceptions.

No matter how far gone Derek was, he’d never let her die. He’d keep her alive whether she wanted it or not.

Women, though, could take multiple mates. Reproduction was rare enough that the whole system was built around it.

Derek would never share. Not willingly.

When I got back to the holding area, every pair of eyes in the room burned into me.

Sloane had volunteered herself, and that humiliation landed on me just because I shared her blood.
