Too Late for Regret My Biased Family Begged for Mercy While I Embraced My Billionaire Husband Chapter 03

The four of them walked in, chatting and laughing.

I was scrolling through Mom’s old posts, tears streaming down my face before I knew it.

Their laughter died instantly.

Then Lila complained, shrill.

“You scared me!”

“What’s wrong with you? Moping around like this at night—who are you doing this for?”

She clutched her chest, breathing fast.

Before I could speak, the whole family fussed over her.

“Lila, are you okay? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?”

“Do you need to go to the hospital?”

“Don’t worry, sis. I’ll protect you.”

I looked up at them.

In that moment, I didn’t belong in this house. Didn’t belong with them.

And they looked at me like I was a monster.

I stared at them and let out a bitter, mocking laugh.

Jax stepped forward and shoved me hard, furious.

“Elara, what’s wrong with you?”

“You scared my sister, and you’re laughing?”

“If anything happens to her, I swear I’ll make you pay!”

I stumbled backward. My lower leg slammed into the coffee table. A dull thud.

Pain shot through me. I laughed even harder.

Jax only ever talked about his sister.

He forgot I was his sister too.

Somewhere along the way, he stopped calling me that.

In this family, I’d been an outsider from the start.

A flicker of guilt crossed Mom’s face.

She started to step toward me to check.

Then Lila let out a sharp cry.

“My chest hurts so bad!”

Mom turned right away and held Lila tightly, full of worry.

“Don’t cry, sweetie. Mom’ll take you to the hospital.”

Lila’s eyes glistened.

“I’m okay, Mom. Go check on Elara.”

Mom didn’t even glance at me.

“Don’t worry about her. She’s always been tough. A little scratch won’t hurt her.”

There it was again.

I snapped. I swept everything off the table onto the floor.

“Why?”

“Why are you doing this to me?”

“If you didn’t love me, why did you even have me?”

The house went dead silent.

Mom and Dad froze.

Then Jax’s voice cut through, sharp and demanding.

“Elara, are you out of your mind?”

“How dare you talk to Mom and Dad like that?”

He stepped forward, ready to hit me.

Dad stopped him.

“Jax, don’t. She’s your sister.”

For a split second, my heart fluttered with doubt.

Was he protecting me?

All these years, I’d always been the one blamed for everything.

I was used to it.

Being suddenly defended felt like a hallucination.

Jax’s voice softened, annoyed.

“But she said that to you guys!”

Dad’s eyes darkened.

“Let her talk. We haven’t treated her right over the years.”

In that moment, my stubborn tears broke free and rolled down my cheeks.

Mom and Dad. You finally saw me.
