I Was A Hopeless Gold Digger Protected By A Pain‑Linked Billionaire Chapter 10

I stared at the ticket. My brain short–circuited.

“Why did you keep this?”

“To remember the first time someone humiliated me with five dollars.”

“Well – I was poor back then.”

“I could tell.”

He tucked the ticket back into his wallet with extreme care.

I suddenly didn’t know where to look.

All these years, I thought our relationship was simple. Clean. He paid for safety. I took the money

and kept myself intact. No emotions. No one taking advantage.

Turns out this bastard had been planning it all along.

“So the ten million a month was that a setup too?

“No.”

“Then what was it?”

“I was afraid that if I paid you less, you’d run off with someone else.”

That was such a Grant Hale thing to say.

I was quiet for a moment. “What do you even like about me? The gold digging?”

“Your honesty.”

“The bad tactics?”

“More honest. Safer.”

“That doesn’t sound like a compliment.”

He laughed softly. “Jade – I like you. It has nothing to do with the link. If you want to keep taking

money – I’ll keep paying. If you don’t want to stay in the mansion – we can go anywhere. Only one

rule- don’t leave.”

My nose suddenly felt a little stingy.

To keep the moment from getting too sentimental held out my hand. “Give me that asset transfer

agreement first.”

Grant raised an eyebrow. “You’re saying yes?”

“I need to see the sincerity.”

He pulled out a document – already prepared.

I flipped to the last page. On top of the Hale Group shares and trust funds, he’d added ten more

properties.

I signed immediately.

Grant watched my signature with a complicated expression. “You didn’t even read the terms.”

“I did. The last one – accepting the gift means marrying you.”

“And?”

I hugged the document to my chest. “Fine. Since we’re already here.”

Grant laughed in disbelief. “That’s your attitude toward accepting a proposal?”

“Should I cry instead?”

“Never mind.”

He leaned in and kissed me.

The second his lips touched mine, I bit him.

He frowned. “Are you part dog?”

“Testing if the link’s still active.”

“And?”

I looked at the teeth marks on his lips. “You really don’t feel it anymore.”

Something flashed in his eyes. The next second–e pinned me back against the pillow and

kissed me harder.

This time, I felt it.

Too bad he didn’t feel a thing.

A month later, we had the wedding.

Grant rented out half a private island. I flew around the island three times in his private jet, just to

make sure it was really worth that much.

On the wedding day, a reporter asked: “Mrs. Hale people say you only married him for the money. What do you think?”

I glanced at Grant beside me.

“Lies.”

The reporter blinked.

I flashed my diamond ring. “I also married him for his face.”

Grant wrapped his arm around my waist. “Anything else?”

“Nope.”

He smiled at the reporter. “Don’t air that part.”

Serena was sentenced on multiple charges.

Elena and everyone who participated in the attack paid their price.

As for me – I went from a terrible gold digger who couldn’t land a rich guy to the wife of the

wealthiest man alive.

Grant went through the treatment. The sympathetic link faded.

But his fear of me getting hurt never changed.

The table corners stayed padded. The carpets got thicker. He stood over me when I cut fruit.

I finally lost it. “Grant – the link is gone. If I get hurt you won’t feel it anymore.”

He took the knife from my hand.

“Who says I won’t?”

“The doctors?”

He looked at me. “Doesn’t the heart count as feeling?”

I stared at him, suddenly speechless.

He put a piece of cut fruit in my mouth.

“Stop spacing out. Ten million hits your account tomorrow.”

I wrapped my arms around his waist immediately. “Honey – you suddenly look a lot more

handsome.”

Grant looked down at me. “Can you get any more practical than this?”

I nodded seriously. “Yes. Raise it to twenty million next month, and I can love you even more specifically.”
