She Dressed Me Like Bait, Not Knowing the Shark Was My Brother Chapter 02

She Dressed Me Like Bait, Not Knowing the Shark Was My Brother Chapter 02

Then she spun around and started screaming at me. “Nicole! How many times have I told you to stay away from clients? Don’t dress like that and throw yourself at them just to make a sale!”

“Are you really that desperate? Have you no self-respect left?”

She was the one who told them I was single and “easy.” And now she was calling me a slut.

Seeing her act, I just smiled. “Ms. Foster, you told me to get close to him. You even hinted to Mr. Hayes that I was…”

“Shut up!” Emily didn’t even let me finish. Her plan was to make a huge scene about how Jack and I were acting sleazy.

That way she could kill two birds: cheapen his price and look like a righteous woman of principle to her boss.

Too bad she picked the wrong audience this time.

“Enough.” Jack let out a cold laugh and stood up sharply. “So you’re saying, Ms. Foster, that offering a woman my jacket counts as sexual harassment?”

He draped the jacket, which still smelled like his subtle cologne, over my shoulders. “Or do you think I’m an idiot? Business is business. What is this, some kind of pimp routine?”

“I’m here to look at a project, not choose a date. But you force your employee to dress like this, send her over to me, and then accuse her of being cheap?”

He laughed again, but there was no humor in it. “Your company’s management seems seriously messed up. I can’t afford a partnership like this. The contract for next year is canceled.”

I knew he was furious. Beyond furious about how they were treating his little sister. And even more furious that I was actually still working at this dump.

Hey, I had rent to pay, okay? I’m over twenty. I didn’t want to ask the family for money.

“Mr. Hayes! This is… this is a misunderstanding!” My boss, Mr. Thornton, panicked and shot to his feet.

Losing Jack’s top-tier contract would be a crippling blow to the company. He’d only wanted to pressure Jack a little, not blow the whole deal.

So he immediately turned his fury on Emily. “Emily! Everyone knows Mr. Hayes is a class act. He was taking off his jacket to cover her up! And you just had to run over and call him a pervert! Apologize to Mr. Hayes. Now!”

Emily flinched. Then her gaze slid over to me, huddled in the corner. Her eyes were red, her jaw clenched, the picture of pitiable innocence.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Thornton, Mr. Hayes. I overreacted. But I was just worried! Nicole has a habit of getting handsy with her clients, trying to sleep her way to a promotion. I was afraid Mr. Hayes would…”

“I told her today to dress appropriately, but she chose this… this provocative outfit anyway. She said it would make Mr. Hayes pay more attention. I just panicked. I was afraid something would happen…”

Listening to her twist the truth, I just felt a chill run through me.

“Ms. Foster, let’s be honest. You shoved that dress at me. You ordered me to go over and toast him. You threatened my attendance bonus if I refused. Now you’re saying I picked it out myself?”

“Nicole, have you no shame?” Emily gasped, clutching her chest. “Everyone in our department knows how you flirt with clients. Now you’re trying to blame me for your behavior?”
