Sebastian froze. A loud ringing filled his ears. 

“What did you say?” 

Colt let go of Seraphina and shrugged with a smug 

“How do you think I got in, Mr. Whitmore?” 

“Miss Vance gave me her invitation. She said to 

make sure I delivered this wedding gift.” 

He pulled a small box from his jacket. 

Sebastian’s spine turned to steel. He couldn’t lift 

his hand to take it. 

Colt didn’t have the patience. He tossed the box at 

Sebastian’s feet. 

The black velvet case rolled in the dust. It looked 

cheap. Disgusting. 

When it hit the table leg, the lid popped open. 

A simple silver band rolled out. 

The initials S.W. were faintly engraved on the 

inside. 

A raw, animal sound tore from Sebastian’s throat. 

He dropped to his knees and clutched the ring to 

his chest. 

They’d made these rings together. They’d taken them to a little chapel to be blessed. 

For nine years, Elara had never taken it off. 

Not even after a car accident crushed her hand. She’d refused surgery just to keep it on. 

And now she’d sent it back. 

Elara was done with him. 

Seraphina scrambled over on her hands and knees. Her face was smeared with blood. 

“Sebastian! You said you’d protect me! You swore 

you would!” 

“Get him away from me! He’s gonna kill me!” 

Sebastian’s eyes were shot through with red. He looked at her, really looked at her, and backhanded her 

so hard her lip split open. 

“Get the hell away from me.” 

He tore off his tuxedo jacket and 

grabbed Seraphina’s wrist. 

He yanked the pink diamond ring off her finger. 

She screamed in pain. 

Tears and snot covered her face. Her voice was a 

raw rasp. 

“Sebastian! You promised me! You promised!” 

“I did all this to come back to you! Everything I did 

was for you!” 

The truth was, the second Seraphina took the 

money and got on that plane, she regretted it. 

When she landed in Paris, she married the first 

rich man she found. 

But the guy was a player. He brought his mistress 

home the next night. 

Within six months, pregnant women were showing 

up at her door. Demanding she step aside. 

Seraphina lost it. She screamed at Colt, asking why 

he ruined their marriage. 

He said she was crazy and locked her in a dark 

room. 

When she got out, she sold his company’s 

multimillion–dollar trade secrets to a competitor. 

She made a fortune. Colt lost everything. His business, his home. 

Then she took what little he had left and fled back to the States. She begged Sebastian for protection. 

Sebastian wanted to prove she’d made a mistake leaving him. 

So he gave her everything. He hid her tracks. Colt 

could never find her. 

But now Sebastian saw how monumentally stupid 

he’d been. 

He’d thrown away a woman who loved him completely for a woman who only loved his wallet. 

He looked at Colt, his voice breaking. 

“Please. Tell me where Elara went.” 

“I can’t live without her.” 

Colt just smiled and said nothing. 

He grabbed Seraphina by the hair and shoved her 

into a van. 

Her screams echoed down the whole block. 

The guests stood frozen, watching the disaster 

unfold in silence. 

Sebastian’s mother crushed her wine glass. His 

father bellowed for him to get out. 

The wedding of the century had turned into a 

complete joke. 

Sebastian stumbled down the street and called his 

contact. 

“I don’t care what it costs. Find Elara Vance. Now.“
