They Buried Me in the Desert. I Built Weapons for the Crown Chapter 07

When Eamon collapsed, the entire scene descended into chaos.

An ambulance rushed him away.

The sharp smell of antiseptic filled the private hospital suite.

Eamon was still unconscious, an oxygen mask covering his face.

Octavia finally lost all trace of her usual arrogance and collapsed into a chair, sobbing uncontrollably.

Her eyes were red, and her voice had risen to an almost hysterical pitch.

“Nothing can jeopardize Sera’s mate bond. If Veyr Pack’s alpha breaks the mate bond, Ashborne Pack is

finished!”

“lona, I’m begging you. Ask them to drop the charges, please.”

“We held you back and made you take the blame for Sera’s research fraud because we had to think about the bigger picture!”

“What if Sera’s reputation had been ruined and Veyr Pack’s alpha had refused to seal the mate bond?”

Her face was a mess of tears and snot, and all I felt was bitter amusement.

Even now, all she cared about was Ashborne Pack’s interests and Seraphine’s mate bond.

I was about to speak when the door to the hospital room flew open.

Julian Veyr walked in, his expression grim.

He was Seraphine’s new mate and the alpha of Veyr Pack.

The moment Seraphine saw him, she lunged toward him as if he were her last lifeline, reaching for his arm.

“Julian, please help me. lona is trying to destroy us…”

“Get away from me!” Julian shoved Seraphine aside, his face cold.

He stared at Seraphine in disgust and flung a stack of investigative reports in her face.

“Research fraud, stealing your own sister’s work, and now involvement in unlawful confinement and

preparations for forced stem-cell harvesting from a living donor…”

“You people really are something.”

“Veyr Pack will never have a vicious parasite like you as its Luna!”

Seraphine crumpled to the floor, her face bloodless. “Julian, that’s not what happened. My brother did all of

I didn’t know anything…”
“You didn’t know?” Julian scoffed. “You personally picked up lona’s medical reports every single time. Do you

really think I’m stupid?”

“From today on, we’re separating. Every joint project between Veyr and Ashborne ends now. Ashborne can

rot.”

Julian left as quickly as he had arrived without so much as glancing at Eamon in the bed.

“No… don’t go! Julian!”

Seraphine panicked completely and scrambled to her feet, but he was already gone.

She whipped around and glared venomously at Octavia, all traces of her usual fragile sweetness gone.

“This is all your fault! You said nothing could go wrong. So how did they uncover what happened to lona?”

“Now Veyr’s alpha has broken the mate bond, and I’ve lost everything! What about my illness? Who’s going to be my donor match?!”

“Sera, how can you speak to your mother like that?” Octavia stared at her in shock.

“Mother? If it weren’t for Ashborne Pack’s money, do you really think I’d put up with you every day?” Seraphine screamed, finally dropping the act. “You couldn’t even control one C-rank wolf. You’re all useless!”

Octavia snapped, and the two of them started fighting like something out of a farce.

I watched them coldly, then turned and walked out of the room.

A senior RLARI official and Kellan were waiting for me in the hallway.

“Ms. Ashborne, RLARI, the Department of Higher Education and Research Integrity, and the Federal Wolf Court have jointly held a formal public proceeding to clear your name.”

The official patted my shoulder, his expression solemn.

“Your authorship credit has been fully restored, and you have been formally cleared of the research-fraud

allegation.”

“In recognition of your extraordinary contributions, RLARI is officially appointing you Chief Researcher for the Crown’s core program.”

“As for the mentors and specialists involved, they’ve all been stripped of their professional credentials and

will face sanctions under pack law.”

“Thank you,” I said softly.

“And RLARI has already contacted the leading medical team in the Lycan realm,” Kellan added. “They’ll begin

comprehensive treatment tomorrow.”

Just then, Ashborne’s lawyer came rushing over, drenched in sweat, clutching a document and looking at me

almost pleadingly.

“Ms. Ashborne, Alpha Gideon and Dr. Octavia are willing to pay $500 million in compensation if you’ll sign this statement asking the court for leniency…”

Five hundred million dollars?

That kind of money could set anyone up for life.

But I didn’t even reach for the document. I simply looked at the lawyer calmly.

“Go back and tell them I don’t need their money. I want the court’s verdict.”
