Her Cloak Was Sewn With Blessings, While I Had Nothing Chapter 07

The moment the words were out, I let go of the last layer of mental connection between myself and

e Greyfang-Pack.

The Pack bond had been a thread buried in my chest for years, and it came out of me an inch at a time. Maybe it was because I had come through surgery that nearly killed me. Whatever the reason,

it hurt far less than I had expected.

But my parents and Kieran all grabbed at their chests at the same time. When a blood relative severs a Pack bond on purpose, it comes back to bite those left behind.

Brielle’s tears came all at once with her pup in her arms.

“Sable, I’m sorry. I had no idea it was that bad for you that day. But why go this far? Are you really cutting yourself off from Greyfang?”

She took a step forward and reached for my hand.

“I’m giving the blessing cloak back to you. Don’t be angry anymore, okay?”

I looked at the cloak with her pup’s name embroidered on it, the one her pup had already been

wrapped in.

“I don’t want somebody else’s used goods. And I want even less something that was mine to begin with and is being handed back to me as charity.”

Her hand stopped in the air, and the color went out of her.

Garrick’s face finally hardened, and the authority of an Alpha came off him.

“Sable, watch your mouth. Brielle is your blood sister. She came here in good faith and this is how you receive her? You think walking out of Greyfang is a threat to me? Get it straight. You need the Pack’s protection. Greyfang doesn’t need you.”

Kieran couldn’t help adding to it.

“Exactly. You can’t have another pup now. If something happens to this one down the road, are you telling me you’ll never need us…”

He didn’t get to finish.

My hand was already across his face.

Kieran staggered a step, held his cheek, and stared at me.

Crack.

I hit him a second time.

“The first one is so you remember never to mistake my patience for weakness again.”

“The second one is a warning. Never curse my pup again.”

Deep in my chest, my wolf growled.

Garrick started to speak, and Drystan was already on his feet.

“Enough.”

The pressure of the Frostveil Alpha rolled over the whole room.

Garrick’s face darkened, and he didn’t come any closer.

Drystan pulled a stack of documents out of his case and dropped them in front of Kieran.

“That’s everything Sable has covered for Greyfang over the last three years. Kieran’s down

payment and the gap on his mortgage, his car notes, Brielle’s wedding and her Luna ceremony, and

the contributions to both of your retirement accounts. Which one of those didn’t come out of Sable’s pocket?”

Kieran scrambled to pick up the papers.

The numbers on them took the rest of the color out of his face.

Drystan looked at all of them without any warmth.

“You kept up appearances on her money and pulled resources out of Frostveil on her name. And

what did you treat her as?”

Nobody answered.

Drystan kept going.

“As of today, the Frostveil Pack ends every investment, loan guarantee, and trade priority it holds with the Arden family businesses.”

Garrick’s face changed.

Greyfang’s construction supply and freight operations had been losing money for two years.

Without Frostveil’s cash and guarantees, they would have gone under a long time ago.

“Drystan, wait.” Garrick’s tone finally came down. “Business between Packs doesn’t get shut off over a family matter.”

He tried to step forward, and the Frostveil warriors at the door stopped him.

Maris panicked worse.

She went down on her knees beside my bed.

“Sable, I know I was wrong. I’ll make it up to you, I swear. But you can’t really walk away from

Greyfang. Your father put his whole life into it and it’s where you grew up.”

I looked down at her.

There was a time I wanted nothing more than for her to look at me like that.

To love me a little more.

To put me ahead of Brielle one single time.

Now all I felt was tired.

“Get out.”

“Sable…”

“I said get out.”

hifted my eyes.

The only sound left in the room was the monitors.

Drystan lifted a hand.

Frostveil warriors walked the Greyfangs out.

The second the door shut, I let out a long breath.

Drystan sat back down on the bed and gathered me in.

“It’s over.”

He rubbed my back.

I leaned into his chest and listened to that steady heartbeat.

“Drystan.”

“Take me home.”

The day I was discharged, Greyhaven had sun for once.

Drystan pushed my chair out of Mooncrest.

We told nobody in Greyfang, and there were no goodbyes.

When we got home to Frostveil territory, and the door opened, the familiar cedar and woodsmoke

came out to meet me.

The house was warm enough to put a sting behind my eyes.

There were my favorite flowers in the living room and the bedroom.

In the nursery, the nanny was rocking my pup, home safe from the newborn intensive care ward

She smiled and came to meet us.

“Luna, the pup just finished a bottle and he’s sleeping well.”

I looked down at the small face in the blanket.

The part of me that had been frozen for a long time started to thaw.

This was my pup.

He had cost me most of my life to get here.

Drystan came up behind me, put his arms around my shoulders, and rested his chin on top of my

head.

“From here on, the three of us live well.”

“Yes.”

I answered him quietly.
