The Top Score That Brought The Army Chapter 01

The Top Score That Brought The Army Chapter 01

I was just an extra in a trashy romance novel.

When the pure, unpretentious scholarship girl transferred to our school, I was studying.

When she ranted that the top four families in this city leached off society, I was studying.

When the heirs of those four families took turns falling in love with her, I kept studying.

Then midterm exams rolled around, and I snatched the top rank away from her.

Amon Sterling, prince of the lead empire, locked me into a storage room.

He said he’d leave me there for three days to teach me a lesson.

I calmly dialed an encrypted number.

It was a melodrama, after all. Everybody had some kind of hidden background.

Minutes later, over a hundred helicopters surrounded the entire school.

Amon looked down at me, his mouth twisted into a textbook smug smirk.

“Listen up, An… An… what’s-your-name?”

He frowned.

Silence stretched for a while.

“Angie Caine,” I supplied.

His brows pulled together in disgust. “What a trashy name.”

He scoffed, “If I weren’t doing this for Yana, I wouldn’t waste a single breath on a girl like you.”

I nodded in complete understanding.

He was the main lead. Why would he bother remembering an extra?

To him, I wasn’t even worth noticing.

I had been reborn into this world right from birth, only to realize that I had landed inside an old-school high school drama.

The plot revolved around the wealthy heirs and a broke scholarship girl in a toxic web of love and hate.

I was nothing more than a passing line in the text.

[Ever since Yana Hobbes transferred in, the previous top student was permanently stuck in second place.]

That permanent second place was me.

But I refused to let the story dictate my fate.

Ten years in the book, ten years outside it—I had spent twenty actual years studying.

Other people transmigrated to chase romance. I transmigrated to grind through test prep books.

I was taking the top spot, no matter what.

So while the whole school fawned over the four heirs, I studied.

While the girls grouped up to bully Yana, I studied.

While the four heirs fell for her one by one—hugging in the rain, confessing love on the rooftop, holding hands in the library—I kept grinding through practice questions without faltering.

Their romance burned loud and dramatic. My focus stayed perfectly calm and unshaken.

Then midterm results posted, and my name sat right at the top.

“Do you have any idea how much Yana cried last night because you stole first place?” Amon spat.

He backed me against the wall, radiating the domineering pressure of someone born into privilege.

“She works so hard; she’s so sweet. Why are you targeting her?”

“Excuse me,” I cut in. “But I recall Yana only ranked eightyfourth this time.”

“There are eighty-two other people between us.”

Amon blinked, caught off guard, before anger flushed his face.

“First place belonged to Yana! She only got eighty-fourth because you took what was hers! It’s all your fault!”

His logic was truly something else.

Before I could reply, he tossed me into the storage room and slammed the heavy metal door.

The lock clicked shut.

“You’ll stay locked up for three days, so you know your place.”

His voice dripped with condescension.

“Learn where you belong before you try to take what isn’t yours.”

Footsteps faded into the hallway.

I looked around the dark room, surrounded by broken desks and dusty gym gear, figuring out my next move.

My phone vibrated with an encrypted call.

“Angie! Top score again? Hahaha, that’s my girl!”

Dad’s loud voice boomed through the speaker.

“Our friends heard the news and went crazy! They set up a hundred barrels of explosives just to throw you a welcome-home party!”

“Should your mom pick you up, sweetheart? She just got her hands on a rare vintage weapon recently. Total showstopper.”
