She Wore My Dress, She Married My Groom, She Planned My Love Chapter 07

She Wore My Dress, She Married My Groom, She Planned My Love Chapter 07

Over the next few months, my life slowly began to change.

My proposal was rejected six times.

Before the seventh presentation, I stayed in the conference room all night making revisions.

When Rowena handed me the final approval, she smiled.

“Veda Kellan, congratulations.”

“Your design was approved.”

I held the document, my eyes suddenly burning.

There had been a time when Torin was always the first person I wanted to tell whenever something good

happened.

Then it was Mom and Dad. Corbett. Tressa.

Most of the time, they either ignored me or sent back some halfhearted version of good for you.

Cambria could post a latte and a pastry on Instagram and somehow get more attention than anything I

accomplished.

But now, my coworkers had actually listened to my presentation.

They applauded when it was over. Someone handed me coffee, and someone else asked if I wanted to

celebrate with them that night.

I looked down and signed my name on the approval form.

For the first time, Veda Kellan felt like a name that meant something all on its own.

Six months later, the first phase of the Viremont waterfront project officially opened.

The interview eventually made its way back to Sableton.

That was how Torin finally saw me again.

In the footage, my hair was shorter. I stood beside the project model, answering the reporter’s questions

calmly.

The interview lasted three minutes.

Torin watched it over and over all night.

The next morning, he booked the earliest flight to Viremont.

and straight into her best friend’s…

He found me just after a project launch event.

Torin was standing outside the Civic Pavilion.

He had lost a lot of weight

“Veda.”

He barely got my name out before his voice went rough.

I stopped.

“What do you want?”

My calmness seemed to hit him harder than anger would have.

“I’ve been looking for you for eight months.”

“What Cambria said at the wedding wasn’t true.”

“The breakfasts, the flowers, everything I said during those ninety-nine days. I did all of it because I wanted

to.”

He looked at me like he was desperately trying to put our ruined memories back together.

“Veda, those seven years weren’t fake.”

“I really did love you.”

I looked at him and laughed.

“Torin, do you think that makes it better?”

“If it had all been fake, then I would’ve just been fooled for seven years.

“But you DID love me.”

“You knew exactly how much I trusted you, and you still helped them lie to me. You let me keep believing we were building a future while I planned a wedding for your actual wife.”

“You knew exactly where to hurt me.”

His lips trembled.

“When Cambria came back, I thought I still had feelings for her.”

“Then she got pregnant. I thought I owed her something.”

“But I couldn’t let you go either. I thought I could explain everything after the wedding.”

I cut him off.

“You didn’t love me too much to let me go.”

“You loved knowing that no matter how badly you hurt me, I’d still be there loving you.”

“That version of Veda died in that hospital.”

Torin’s eyes turned red. /

“I’m sorry.”

“I didn’t know about the baby.”

“If I had known, I never would’ve left you there.”

I looked at him.

“You didn’t know about the first baby either.”

“Because every time you had to choose, you never chose me.”

“Torin, not knowing doesn’t make you innocent.”

“It means you didn’t care enough to know.”

That silenced him.

Rain began to fall outside the pavilion.

A few of my coworkers came over with umbrellas and asked if I was joining them for the project celebration.

I nodded and walked past Torin.

He caught the edge of my coat.

“Give me one more chance.”

“I’ll fix everything.”

I pulled the fabric free.

“Your marriage, your child, and your regrets have nothing to do with me anymore.”

“Don’t come looking for me again.”
