My Fiancé Took Her on Vacation Instead of Marrying Me? I Married WAY Better Chapter 14

My Fiancé Took Her on Vacation Instead of Marrying Me? I Married WAY Better Chapter 14

But it wasn’t the wedding announcement that truly broke Ethan.

It was the file his assistant emailed two hours later.

A document titled “Historical Partnership Tracking.”

From the first lifeline investment, the first core clients, to cross-industry collaborations,

government contracts, pre-IPO due diligence-every major milestone of his company traced back

to one name.

The Wright family.

More specifically, Serena Wright.

A few early internal memos were brutally direct:

[This client was secured as a favor to Ms. Wright.]

[Please note, Mr. Hale-this is the last time. Old Mr. Wright doesn’t want Ms. Wright to know.]

[If you ever betray Ms. Wright, your company will bear the consequences.]

Page after page. His hands trembled.

All those years he’d prided himself on his comebacks, his opportunities, his lucky breaks-none of

them had truly been his.

He’d thought he was exceptional, that Serena had stayed because he deserved her.

The truth was the opposite.

She and her family had been propping him up in the shadows, delivering resources he never could

have reached on his own.

And what had he done?

He’d treated her like free labor, then a disposable accessory he could belittle, ignore, and humiliate

after he’d made it.

He’d even slapped her.

Ethan’s chest caved in, pain so sharp he could barely stand.

He swept everything off the desk-laptop, papers, glasses-all crashing to the floor.

Bang.

The assistant burst in. “Ethan!”

“Get out!”

His eyes were bloodshot, his voice raw and terrifying.

The assistant fled.

The room fell silent, leaving only the wreckage and Ethan alone.

And then Mira walked in again.

She’d clearly been crying. Her eyes were red and swollen, but she clung to her fragile act. “Ethan, I

know you’re in a bad mood. I won’t hold what happened earlier against you. I’m only trying to help.

That Serena-”

“Shut up.”

He looked up at her, eyes like ice.

“You don’t even deserve to say her name.”

Mira went pale. “Why don’t I? I came all the way to Coral Bay with you, I

“Came with me?” He let out a hollow laugh. “Did you come for me–or for my company and my

title?”

“You’ve been here three days and you already had your hands on my arm, my passenger seat, her projects. What gave you the nerve?”

“Was it because you knew I’d use her patience to reward your pushing?”

Every word hit home. Mira finally broke.

“Because she was too pathetic to leave! You treated her like garbage, and she still stayed. What was I supposed to do? I just knew how to grab what I wanted!”

“And you enjoyed it too! You liked that I was young, that I worshipped you, that she had to swallow her pride while I took everything!”

“Now she’s gone and the company’s falling apart, and you’re blaming it all on me?”

Color drained from Ethan’s face. Not because he’d been outplayed-but because he’d known all along and still-chosen to hurt her the most.

He grabbed Mira by the jaw, his voice terrifyingly low. “What did you send her?”

“Wh-what?”

“I asked what did you send her?”

She shook in his grip, finally cracking. “Just some pictures… a few texts…”

“Get them recovered.”

Half an hour later, the tech team sent back the recovered chat logs.

Photo after photo. Taunts, one after another, laid bare on the screen.

[Serena, your pajamas smell so good.]

[And the bed is really soft too.]

[Guess who he’ll choose in the end?]

[When men make it big, the last thing they want is the woman who suffered with them.]

Reading the last line, Ethan felt like he’d been struck by a baseball bat.

She hadn’t been numb that night. She hadn’t not cared.

She’d just been hurt so badly that screaming wouldn’t even help.

He sank back onto the couch, his eyes hollow.

A broken laugh escaped his throat-worse than crying.

Mira finally broke, scrambling to his feet and clutching his pant leg. “Ethan, I’m sorry! Please don’t

fire me. Don’t take this further-I’ll be destroyed-”

“Destroyed?” He looked down at her, expressionless. “You think you’re the only one?”

“I’m destroyed too.”

He pried her fingers off, one by one, and stood.

“Hand her over to legal.”

“And book me the earliest flight back to Sterling City.”

The assistant froze. “Ethan, you’re going back to-”

“To beg her.”

His voice cracked.

“Even if I have to crawl, I’ll get her back.”
