The System Said I Wasn’t the Heroine, So I Left My Alpha and He Broke Down Chapter 13

As Adrian coaxed me in that low voice, his familiar pine scent wrapped around me. The moment I lowered my head and gently bit the spot between his neck and shoulder, the aching itch in my teeth finally disappeared. Even the sense of security I’d been missing these past few days came rushing

back.

I knew I hadn’t bitten him hard at all. But Adrian had to brace one hand against the doorframe as if he could barely stay on his feet, and his breathing became frighteningly heavy. When the urge finally faded, I looked up and realized the corners of his eyes were wet again.

“I’m sorry…”

The moment I remembered the system saying I’d disgusted him so badly that I’d made him cry, the pleasure I’d just felt vanished instantly. Adrian’s chest rose and fell sharply. Then he cradled my head in his hands and rested his forehead against mine.

“Elena, you never have to say ‘I’m sorry’ to me.”

“I’m the one who should be sorry.”

“I knew you liked someone else, and I still came here to seduce you.”

His voice dropped even lower.

“But we’ve known each other for so many years. Can’t you at least give me a chance…?”

For a moment, I couldn’t even process what he was saying.

“I like who?”

Adrian frowned, looking almost wronged.

“Ryan.”

I suddenly realized there had been some kind of huge misunderstanding between us.

“I don’t like Ryan.”

“And I didn’t bite him today either.”

“I’ve only ever… bitten you.”

The arm around my waist suddenly tightened. Adrian’s breath was so hot against me that it actually

unnerved me.

“Then why have you been in such a bad mood these past few days?”

“Wasn’t it because he was ignoring you?”

I fell silent. A few seconds later, a realization suddenly hit me. The reason I’d been so upset wasn’t Ryan at all. It was because of that so-called female lead who was supposed to appear later.

The thought made my entire body freeze. If I cared that much about the female lead… didn’t that mean I really did like the male lead?

I stared at Adrian. The corners of his eyes were still slightly red, and his dark eyes looked unbelievably bright.

Even his scent was threaded with expectation he could no longer hide. His face had always been unfairly handsome, and his body was just as unfairly perfect. Even the tiny mole I’d just bitten beside his scent gland was somehow impossible to look away from.

Maybe falling for someone like Adrian wasn’t surprising at all.

“Adrian…”

I looked at the position we were in and suddenly felt awkward.

“Do you like me?”

How had I never noticed before? Every time I bit Adrian, the atmosphere between us had felt far too much like flirting. His gaze darkened, and his voice came out rough and hoarse.

“If I didn’t like you, why would I, an Alpha, let you leave your bite marks on me year after year?”

“So, Elena…”

“Do you finally understand how you feel?”

“You just said you don’t like Ryan.”

His eyes stayed locked on mine.

“Then… do you like me?”

My throat suddenly tightened. I was just about to admit it when the system’s voice exploded inside my head.

[I’m so mad! I’m so freaking mad!!!]

I instinctively shoved Adrian away. I was terrified the system was about to brand me the villainess

again.

[I even got chewed out over this! How is it my fault the main plot went completely off the rails and the female lead bailed on the whole story?!]

[Forget this stupid story. I’m done! Go ahead and keep biting your childhood friend.]

[The male lead is yours.]

[Wait. No. He’s not even the male lead anymore.]

It kept complaining.

[Next time, I am NEVER binding myself to a side character again.]

[The female lead quit the main plot, and nobody even bothered to tell me! I’ve wasted all this time here for nothing!]

The system’s voice grew farther and farther away. My fingers slowly curled. Adrian gave me a bitter

smile.

“It’s okay. I was just joking.”

“Elena… can we still be friends?”

I cleared my throat twice and lightly tugged at the hem of his shirt.

“No.”

The expectation in his eyes slowly disappeared. I cleared my throat again.

“Friends don’t leave bite marks like this.”

I paused.

“But if you’re my boyfriend…”

“I think that’s different.”
