I Cancelled My Dream School To Escape Their Justice Chapter 04

I lost it. I stormed toward her.

“Grandma gave that to me. Give it back!”

A flicker of guilt crossed her eyes. “I was just curious—wanted to look—” She tucked it behind her back. She had no intention of giving it back.

Liam stepped in front of her, annoyed. “Nora Shaw, what’s the big deal? Why are you so petty?”

I ignored him, eyes red, staring at Sophie, my voice nearly a scream: “I said, give it back!”

Her eyes welled up. “Today is my party. Why did Grandma give you a house and not me? That’s not fair!”

I was shaking with rage. I let out a cold laugh.

“Fair? Every time I got a scholarship, Mom and Dad gave you double. I’ve never gotten a real gift. I’ve worn nothing but your hand-me-downs. In eighteen years, this is the only thing I’ve ever been given. And that’s not fair?”

She couldn’t argue back. Her face turned red. Tears formed.

Liam’s face darkened. He shot me a cold glare, then snatched the agreement from her.

Right in front of me, he tore it to shreds and threw it on the floor.

“Now it’s gone. Everyone stop fighting.”

I stood there, frozen. Chills ran down my spine. I stared at the shredded paper, rage boiling—

Then my dad slapped me across the face.

“Enough!”

I held my burning cheek, staring at him in disbelief.

His face was cold, disappointed. “How did I raise you? It’s just a piece of paper, and you’d humiliate your sister in public? Remember, this is Sophie’s day. Without her, you wouldn’t even qualify to get that agreement!”

Grandma tried to speak up, but Dad snapped at her too. “I’ve told you before—stay out of how I raise my kids!”

Grandma started shaking, gasping for breath. She nearly collapsed.

I rushed to hold her up, my voice hoarse. “It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have fought. I won’t fight anymore.”

I didn’t look at my parents or Liam. I turned, calm, and walked out.

Behind me, Sophie was still sniffling. “It’s my fault—I made Nora unhappy—”

My parents raised their voices toward the door. “Let her go! Always with the sour face. She ruined the whole party. Good riddance—hope she never comes back!”

The shouts faded. My heart was already numb.

At home, I packed as fast as I could.

I took my suitcase and went straight to the airport.

Just before boarding, my phone rang—Liam.

“Where are you? They were just venting. You actually left? Come back and apologize to Sophie. This can all blow over. If you really care about the party, I’ll throw you one in San Francisco.”

I thought of him favoring Sophie. I thought of that home, filled with blame.

I laughed. “No thanks. That’s not my home anymore.”

The boarding announcement came. “Flight to Boston is now boarding—”

He went silent, then his voice shot up. “You’re on a plane? Why are you going to Boston?”

I didn’t answer. I hung up. Blocked everyone. Snapped my SIM card in half and threw it away.

Then I walked onto the plane without looking back.
