I Cancelled My Dream School To Escape Their Justice Chapter 03

The next day, at the party, my parents paraded Sophie around, telling everyone she’d gotten into Stanford.

On stage, she smiled and said, “I want to thank my parents for their support—and Liam for his encouragement.”

The crowd cheered—all Liam’s friends.

“Bro, you and Sophie are finally together!”

“Never liked that Nora anyway. Liam and Sophie are a perfect match.”

“Some people always get first place, but this time they only got into community college. Must have been cheating, right?”

Listening to them tear me apart, Liam didn’t frown, didn’t argue.

He walked on stage and took Sophie’s hand.

He didn’t even glance my way.

I looked away and stayed silent.

I overheard my aunt talking to my mom. “Why are you only holding a party for Sophie? What about Nora?”

My parents’ smiles froze.

“Nora didn’t do well this year. She’s embarrassed, so we’re not having one.”

My aunt sighed. “You two are something. Sophie did great, sure—but Nora’s your daughter too. How can you be so biased?”

I clenched my fists and glanced at them. They looked embarrassed. Finally, they said:

“You don’t understand. Nora’s always been competitive. Sophie is sensible and easy. Besides, Nora overthinks everything and holds grudges—I just can’t bring myself to care about her.”

Every eye in the room was on me—watching, judging.

I felt completely cold inside.

I stood up to leave—but a pair of trembling hands stopped me.

Grandma.

She smiled and pulled out a stack of papers from her bag. A property transfer agreement.

“Nora, don’t be sad. Since they won’t throw you a party, Grandma will make it up to you. This is my old house in San Francisco. When you go to college, you can move in—”

Before she could hand it to me, my dad pulled her aside.

“Mom, what are you doing? This is the house Dad bought you in Pacific Heights—it’s worth at least two million now! How can you give it to her?”

My mom chimed in, “Exactly. If anyone gets it, it should be Sophie. She did so well.”

Grandma shoved Dad away, her face cold. “Your second child has all of you spoiling her. What’s wrong with me favoring the eldest for once? This house is mine, and I’m giving it to Nora. No one’s taking it.”

Her voice wasn’t loud, but it hit me like a thunderclap.

For the first time in eighteen years, someone had chosen me—unconditionally.

I held the property deed in my hands and wanted to say thank you.

But all that came out was a choked sob.

With all those relatives watching, and my parents’ searching glances, I couldn’t even cry properly.

I hugged Grandma and went to the bathroom to compose myself.

When I came back, the property transfer agreement was gone from my bag.

I froze. My face went white.

I searched everywhere. Finally, I saw it—in Sophie’s hands.
