Grandma Faked Dementia So My Sister Could Steal My Fiancé. Chapter 05

The room fell dead silent.

Grandma’s gasping stopped for half a beat.

I took the first report from my bag and placed it on the table.

“These are her actual medical records. Mild anxicty. Sleep disturbance. No doctor ever diagnosed

her with severe cognitive impairment.”

Diane went pale. “Why did you go looking for those?”

“Because I needed to know whether I’d spent the last three years taking care of a sick woman or helping all of you stage a lie.”

Robert slammed his palm on the table. “Claire! Watch how you talk to your mother!”

Then I took out the bank statements.

“Here’s what I’ve sent this family. Care expenses, medication, appointments. More than $40,000 total. Over $14,000 of it ended up with Lily.”

Lily’s eyes filled immediately.

“Claire, what are you saying? You think I stole your money?”

I looked at her. “I don’t think you did. I know you did.”

I slid a screenshot of a hotel reservation across the table.

“August 17 last year. River-view suite. Two nights. Guest: Lily Bennett. Contact number: Ethan

Walker.”

The color drained from Ethan’s face.

He finally spoke. “Claire, just let me explain.”

I ignored him.

I laid out the photos next.

“On my birthday, you said you were at a client dinner. Lily said she was with a classmate. You were

together at a lakefront rental.”

“On our anniversary, Grandma screamed that someone had stolen her medication. You two went to a midnight movie.”

“Last month, while I worked late, the two of you ordered roses and cake to a hotel room.”

I laid them down one by one.

Soon, the table was covered.

Lily started crying.

Diane started crying too.

Grandma went straight back into character.

“Who are you? Why is everyone shouting? Where’s Claire?”

I looked at her.

“Stop acting, Grandma.”

Something flickered in her cloudy eyes.

I said, “Just last week, you were telling Lily to hide her Instagram Stories from me and make sure

Ethan’s hand never showed in the pictures.”

The blank confusion on Grandma’s face cracked.

Her lips trembled, but no words came out.

Ethan stood up, his voice low.

“Claire, I admit Lily and I got close, but it’s not what you think.”

I laughed. “Then what is it?”

“You’ve been under so much stress these past few years. It’s always your family, money, work. Every time we’re together, you’re handling some crisis. Sometimes I feel like I can’t breathe

around you.”

“So you went to my sister because you needed some air?”

He frowned. “That’s not what I meant.”

“Then what did you mean?”

He said nothing.

Lily burst out through tears, “Claire, Ethan and I love each other! You already have everything. A career. You’re capable. Mom and Dad depend on you. Why can’t you let me have one person?”

I stared at her, suddenly struck by how absurd it was.

“I have everything?”

“Go on. Tell me exactly what I have.”

I stood to leave, but Diane rushed over and grabbed my arm.

“Claire, you can’t just leave! Your grandmother is this old, and you’re walking out?”

I pulled free.

“She can act, scheme, and arrange dates for Lily behind my

“She’s clearer-headed than all of you.”

I grabbed the suitcase I’d left by the front door.

Ethan stepped in front of me.

“Claire, just calm down. We can talk.”

I looked at him.

back.”

“Talk about what? How you were planning to marry me while sleeping with my sister?”

His face went completely white.

I opened the door.

And walked out.

Behind me, crying, shouting, and accusations all blurred together.

The moment the elevator doors closed, the world finally went quiet.
