Luna, Who No Longer Recognized Him Chapter 05

Every top healer in Darkwater Pack Medical Center showed up.

Declan ordered the most comprehensive examination they could run.

Standard instruments showed my body was in good condition. Surprisingly good, for someone who’d spent a year alone on a deserted island.

The Pack healer studied the report and frowned. “Luna’s nutritional levels are remarkably stable Minimal muscle atrophy. Sunburn and external injuries have healed well.”

Of course they had.

My beluga had taken care of me.

Every day it brought food from the sea. Sometimes fish. Sometimes shellfish. Sometimes edible seaweed it found from who knows where.

The ocean was full of danger. Where there was prey, there were predators.

But it showed up in front of me every single day, right on time, like a husband returning home from

the hunt.

Another specialist, a bond specialist, pressed her hand to my wrist. Her expression grew darker by

the second.

“Her mate bond response is extremely weak.”

“This isn’t ordinary suppression.”

“It’s more like her wolf side is actively refusing to respond to the Alpha.”

Declan’s face went white.

He looked down at me, his voice wrecked.

| “Aurora, did you ever really love me?”

“If you loved me, how could you let me chase you into that ocean just to prove a point?”

The words “that ocean” hit something inside my skull.

A wire snapped.

The monitors screamed.

The healer shouted: “Stop provoking Luna!”

Too late.

Before anyone could react, I’d ripped the sensor patches off my body and bolted out of the room,

By the time Declan caught up, I was already inside a harbor cab at the hospital entrance.

“Driver, lock the doors.”

“Take me to the nearest shore.”

Declan’s wolf eyes were wild with terror.

Isolde ran out after him, breathless, planting herself at his side.

“Declan, are you still going to ignore my professional opinion?”

“Aurora and that beluga, it’s all just trauma delusion. Start to finish.”

“Don’t chase her.”

“If you don’t follow this time, she won’t dare jump in again.”

Hesitation flickered in Declan’s eyes.

Just for a second.

But that second was enough for the cab to tear out of the hospital lot.

By the time he snapped out of it and told a driver to follow, it was too late.

I reached the shore.

The same ocean. The same endless water.

But it was so vast I didn’t know where to begin.

I stood at the edge and called for the beluga, over and over.

Before, all I had to do was call, and it would rise from the waves.

Now the only answer was the wind.

Fear took root inside me.

Pain split me open from somewhere deep behind my heart.

Then a small fishing boat pulled up to shore.

The old man on board saw me and spoke first. “Miss, are you looking for someone?”

I was crying too hard to get the words out.

“Yes.”

“I’m looking for an injured white beluga.”

The old man paused.

“I think I know the one you mean.’

“It’s been circling this stretch of water for days. Badly hurt. I tried to feed it, but it wouldn’t even

look at the food. Just kept searching for something.”

Tears spilled down my face.

It was alive.

Wounded and bleeding, and still looking for me.

I grabbed the side of the boat, my voice shaking.

“Take me to it.”

“Please, take me to it.”

“If it doesn’t see me soon, it’s going to drag itself to death.”

The old man didn’t ask anything else.

The fishing boat cut through the waves and headed for open water.
