My CEO Toy Turned Out to Be the Lost Heir Chapter 04

I couldn’t handle the second half of the Organic Chemistry lecture.

I drifted off into a deep sleep.

While I was sleeping, someone poked my arm several times.

I looked up bleary-eyed and saw a familiar, arrogant face.

As they say, a toxic female character always has a wicked male accomplice.

Clearly, my childhood friend Jax Thorne fit the bill.

We’ve been birds of a feather since we were kids.

We’re like a chaotic frequency meeting a static noise—just pure, unadulterated trouble.

I whispered in surprise:

“Didn’t you go to Vegas to party?”

“Why are you back suddenly, and at an 8 AM lecture no less? Is that really you, man?”

Jax leaned his chin on his hand, looking half-dead:

“Ugh, I crashed my dad’s favorite Lamborghini while street racing last night.”

“The old man called me ten times to come back and cut off my cards.”

I laughed at his misfortune but offered a hand:

“Want me to lend you some cash?”

Jax said gloomily:

“If I borrow it, I have to pay it back, and I can’t afford that right now.”

“Actually, I have a bunch of stuff I can sell.”

“Look at this necklace, how much can I get for it? I just bought it at a boutique with my dad’s card.”

I leaned in for a closer look and realized the necklace was identical to the one I bought for Julian.

Jax and I really are best friends; even our taste is the same.

I mused:

“How about you sell it to me?”

“Even though it’s a men’s style, I can wear it as a matching set.”

But then I thought about it and sighed:

“Forget it.”

“We’re going to break up sooner or later anyway.”

Two sharp knocks on the desk startled me.

I looked up to see Julian’s face, looking incredibly grim.

He said with a mocking smile:

“You’re having such a good time talking, you didn’t even hear the bell?”

For some reason, I felt a pang of guilt.

“Really? I didn’t hear it.”

Under Julian’s cold, menacing gaze, I frantically packed my things.

I didn’t notice the gift box falling out of the desk.

The necklace and a card fell to the floor.

Julian bent down to pick them up.

The card had his name on it.

He discovered it was a gift from me.

But then Julian stared intensely at the identical necklace around Jax’s neck.

I suddenly felt uneasy.

The next second, I heard his cold sneer:

“Break up sooner or later…”

“Fine, I get what you mean.”

“No wonder you’ve been so cold to me lately. It’s because you’ve found a new target, right?”
