My Mother Paid 100,000 For A Makeup Artist, He Sent Her To His Sister Chapter 10

[I feel so bad for this woman. Thank God she didn’t go through with the wedding. That was so satisfying!]

Before long, resourceful internet users followed the trail and uncovered Lila’s and Nolan’s real identities.

A few days later, I heard that Lila could no longer stand the snide looks from her coworkers. She resigned in

tears.

Nolan’s supervisor had witnessed the entire fiasco at the wedding, and the wave of online ridicule only made things worse. His boss began questioning his judgment and competence, reasoning that someone who couldn’t even get his personal life under control wasn’t ready for greater responsibility.

The promotion that had once seemed guaranteed fell through.

Nolan came to see me several more times. Each time, he sincerely admitted what he had done wrong and

begged me to forgive him.

He told me he had cut all ties with Lila, taken back every expensive gift he had given her, and would never contact her again. At his father’s insistence, his mother had also ended her friendship with Lila’s mother.

After several visits, I had had enough.

I decided to take a trip with Hannah and clear my head instead of thinking about any of it for a while.

We stayed in the country and took a road trip through Minnesota and the Dakotas.

Along Lake Superior’s North Shore, we stood beneath an endless blue sky and watched the clear water

stretch toward the horizon.

We ran along the open trails of Little Missouri National Grassland, with prairie stretching as far as we could

see.

At Badlands National Park, we stared across jagged formations that looked as though the earth itself had

split open. The scale of it was breathtaking.

Surrounded by so much open land, I gradually felt the weight in my chest begin to lift.

My personal troubles seemed insignificant beside the power of nature. The earth had transformed over countless ages, so why should I remain trapped by one failed wedding?

Those seven years had mattered to me, but my life still held many more seven-year chapters.

I didn’t have to decide what came next immediately. I could slow down and see where life took me.

I unblocked Nolan and calmly told him I was ending our relationship. I explained what I had been thinking.

His voice trembled. “Am I going to lose you forever?”

I was silent for a moment.

“Maybe.”

He tried to keep pleading, but I didn’t listen. I ended the call.

Two weeks later, Nolan called again. He said he had asked everyone he could for help and had finally

managed to secure another appointment with Susan.

“It isn’t bridal makeup. I just want to make this up to you, even if it’s only as a friend.”

“Susan really is almost impossible to book. I’m truly sorry.”

I accepted his apology and rejected his love once again.

After returning home and taking some time to recover, I went back to work at my mother’s company.

I wasn’t interested in another relationship for the time being. Besides, making money turned out to be

satisfying in its own way.

I had already moved forward.

My life would not end with one canceled wedding.

Life was an open wilderness. There was no single right path or wrong one-only experiences.

I, Ruby Bennett, would keep living a remarkable life of my own.
