My Mother Paid 100,000 For A Makeup Artist, He Sent Her To His Sister Chapter 08

[Nolan Pierce: Baby, don’t get mad. Just listen to me. At this point, Susan won’t make it to your house in time anyway. Since she’s already there, she might as well do Mrs. Dawson’s makeup. It’ll make our wedding look.

more polished too.]

[Ruby Bennett: You still think this is only about the makeup artist? This is about my dignity. They’ve

humiliated me and trampled all over it. This is my wedding, and my family paid for that makeup artist.

Instead of doing the bride’s makeup, you sent Susan to Lila of all people, then let her stay there to do Lila’s mother’s makeup too. Who exactly are you marrying?]

[Ruby Bennett: We’ve been together for seven years. Every time you told me to give way to Lila, I did. But now

you expect me to give way to someone else at my own wedding too?]

“That’s what happened.”

Countless curious eyes were fixed on me, but I ignored them and continued.

“Finally, we’ll return every gift and check we received. Since everyone is already here, please consider today’s reception a chance for our relatives and close friends to spend time together. I hope you all enjoy the meal.”

I gave the room a brief, respectful nod and stepped down from the stage.

My father and Mr. Pierce then took turns addressing the guests. They thanked everyone for coming, apologized for what had happened, and made a few self-deprecating remarks as they asked for everyone’s understanding. Between them, they managed to calm the room.

Below the stage, Nolan watched Ruby’s slender figure walk forward without hesitation and announce that the

wedding had been canceled.

He bit down hard on his lip, but tears still blurred his vision.

All at once, he realized that Ruby was still the same woman he had fallen for at first sight. She was beautiful,

decisive, and fearless about loving someone with her whole heart or walking away when she had finally had

enough.

It was only because she loved him that she had spent the past several years swallowing her hurt and giving

way to Lila.

Yet after letting his mother poison his thinking, he had actually tried to establish control over Ruby before the wedding and force her to keep sacrificing on one of the most important days of her life.

What a pathetic excuse for love.

When Mr. Pierce returned to the private suite, he asked Nolan why he had sent the makeup artist Ruby’s

family had paid so much to hire to Lila.

After hesitating, Nolan repeated what his mother had told him.

Mr. Pierce stared at him in disbelief before kicking him hard enough to knock him to the floor.

“You thoughtless idiot! How did I end up with a son this stupid?”

Then he summoned Mrs. Pierce and tore into her.

“You’ve destroyed your son’s wedding. Are you satisfied now?”

Mrs. Pierce muttered, “How was I supposed to know Ruby would have such a temper? If this is what she’s

like, we’re better off without her as a daughter-in-law.”

Mr. Pierce drew a sharp breath.

“Shut your mouth. I knew you had been trying to push Lila and Nolan together, and I let it go. But Nolan was about to get married, and you still pulled something like this. What kind of decent woman would Lila’s

mother be if she went along with it?”

“You either cut all ties with her, or you will never manage our family’s money again. The choice is yours.”

Nolan slowly raised his head.

Only then did he truly understand that he had joined his mother and the others in ganging up on Ruby.

“Dad, I want to marry Ruby.”

“Is there still any chance she’ll marry me?”

“I don’t know,” Mr. Pierce snapped.

“For now, clean up the mess you made. Wipe your tears and pull yourself together. Help take care of the

guests and see them out properly. The venue and every remaining wedding arrangement still need to be

wrapped up.”

“And as for Susan’s fee, Lila was the one who used her services. I don’t care whether you pay it or make Lila

pay it, but Ruby is getting the full $15,000 back today.”

The wedding was brought to a hasty end.

That afternoon, my parents’ phones and mine rang nonstop. Friends and relatives flooded us with calls and

messages expressing concern and sympathy.

Most of them understood my decision. They told me that no one could be expected to continue with a

wedding after being treated like a doormat by an outsider on her own wedding day while her future husband couldn’t get his priorities straight.
