His Wine Cost More Than My Unborn Child Chapter 10

His Wine Cost More Than My Unborn Child Chapter 10

I took Lachlan back to Hollow Grove.

At first I figured a guy like him would make a big production out of it. Entourage. Maybe even a helicopter.

He told me to lay off the soap operas. “I’m not that extra.”

We took the train. Thanks to him, I finally got to ride first class.

Everything felt new. I couldn’t figure out what half the buttons did.

Lachlan kept saying, “You’re so clueless,” while showing me how everything worked.

I ordered a meal.

He looked at it with open disgust.

“Well? Does that even taste good?”

I shook my head honestly.

“Not really. My cooking’s better. But I can’t stand wasting food.”

He raised an eyebrow.

“Wait-was that a hint? You angling to cook for me?”

“They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, you know.”

“No.” I smiled faintly. “I cooked for Corbin for three years. Didn’t win his heart. Didn’t win his

stomach either.”

“You’ve probably had professional chefs cooking for you your whole life. I can’t compete with that.”

Lachlan said he liked a good story.

My life wasn’t much of a story, really. No dramatic twists. No wild adventures.

So I just laid it all out. My family. The way I’d grown up. Even the whole thing with Corbin.

Tamsin had warned me before. Told me not to be too much of an open book with men. Said I should

keep a little mystery.

But a guy like Lachlan-he’d seen it all. Trying to put on an act in front of him would just make me

look ridiculous.

He’d handed me that money without hesitation.

I had nothing worth giving him in return.

The least I could do was satisfy his curiosity.
