The words struck me like a blow to the chest. Blood flooded my mouth, and I coughed up a mouthful.

Everyone in my family was buried at Gloucester Cemetery.

Silas was going to destroy it just to appease Caterina!

Ignoring everyone who tried to stop me, I staggered to my feet and made my way to the seventh floor.

The floor felt cut off from the rest of the hospital, all warm lighting and fragrant flower arrangements.

Several nurses were gossiping as though no one else were there.

“Mr. Serrano is finally divorcing that psycho wife of his. I told you—she’s a walking powder keg. She brings a crew to trash a place every time she loses her temper. What man could live with that?”

“I heard Ms. De Luca was the one who actually saved Mr. Serrano. That crazy wife stole the credit…”

I pushed open the door to Caterina’s room.

Silas was spoon-feeding her oatmeal.

His guards closed in behind me, ready to act, but hesitated when they saw the knife in my hand.

Under their watchful eyes, I spoke.

“You and Caterina can have each other. Leave Gloucester Cemetery alone, and I swear you’ll never see me again.”

Caterina quietly tugged at Silas’s sleeve.

Silas gently freed his sleeve from her grasp before turning to me.

“Fine. Stab yourself once as punishment for taking credit for what Caterina did. But someone like you would never—”

His voice died.

I drove the knife into my arm.

“Is that enough?”

Silas shot to his feet.

“Are you out of your mind? Couldn’t you have just played along?”

He crossed the room and wrapped his jacket around my arm.

“You’re pregnant. What would it have cost you to say something nice for once? Even if it’s true that you claimed credit for saving me when Caterina was the one who did it, I…”

A rumble of heavy machinery suddenly came through the tablet in Caterina’s hands.

A worker in a hard hat raised his voice.

“Ms. De Luca, are you sure you want us to level this place? This is a registered family burial ground. We could be facing serious legal trouble.”

Caterina looked up at Silas and smiled.

“The Serrano family will handle the legal side.”

The operator turned the bulldozer toward the cemetery.

A deafening crash blasted through the tablet.

“Caterina!”

I had no idea where the strength came from. I shoved Silas aside, lunged onto the hospital bed, and locked both hands around Caterina’s throat.

“It was you. You planned this from the start!”

The next second, someone hurled me aside, and I crashed onto the floor.

Several heavily built guards pinned me down.

My cheek pressed against the cold floor as I looked up.

Silas stared down at me, his face cold and filled with disappointment.

“Caterina saved my life. For that alone, I won’t let you hurt her.”

Tears flooded my eyes.

“Are you blind, Silas? My father and I saved you! My entire family died because of you—”

“How do I know you aren’t lying? Your father made plenty of enemies with that temper of his.”

At that moment, I almost laughed.

Would it break Silas when he finally learned who Caterina really was?

I laughed until I couldn’t breathe. The guards were so unnerved that they released me.

Silas ordered them to throw me out of the seventh-floor wing.

I lay in the stairwell for a long time, unable to get up.

Then a hand appeared in front of me.

I forced myself to look up and saw someone familiar.

“You?”

Silas’s POV:

Silas had the bloodied knife cleared away before checking Caterina’s neck.

The marks were faint, but Caterina’s eyes brimmed with tears from the pain, stirring another flicker of tenderness in him.

“Calista can be ruthless, but she isn’t a bad person at heart,” Silas explained.

Anger flashed through Caterina’s eyes. She let the nurse tend to her neck, her hair falling forward and hiding most of her expression.

Yet everything that had happened over the past two days had left Silas in turmoil.

He couldn’t stop seeing Calista’s tear-filled eyes. Something deep inside him ached.

Ever since the day he learned Caterina had been the one to save him years ago, everything had spiraled out of control.
