For Five Years, He Took Revenge on the Wrong Woman Chapter 04

Caterina gasped as my chin was forced up.

Something dark flickered in Silas’s eyes.

“Looks like Caterina was right. You really were nearby. I knew you never meant it when you said you were letting go.”

I had bitten my lip hard enough to draw blood.

Caterina took Silas’s hand.

“Forget it. Mrs. Serrano hasn’t actually done anything. She’s pregnant too. We should untie her first.”

She crouched behind me and worked at the tight knot. The moment it came loose, she cried out and fell backward.

A butterfly knife clattered to the floor.

“Don’t kill me. Please don’t kill me…”

Caterina wrapped her arms around herself and scrambled backward until she was at Silas’s feet.

“Calista, your past behavior left Caterina with PTSD. She was only trying to help you. How can you be this heartless?”

Silas kicked the knife aside, his gaze turning glacial.

The moment he noticed the tiny cut on Caterina’s forearm, no bigger than a fingernail, panic seized him.

He clamped his hand over the wound and barked at one of his men to bring the car around.

I picked up the knife. The blade was spotless, without a trace of blood on it.

I opened my mouth to explain, but the look in Silas’s eyes killed the last of my hope.

He was still shouting.

“Caterina has a bleeding disorder. If anything happens to her, I won’t let you get away with it!”

I slashed my own arm with the knife.

His shouting stopped abruptly as blood pattered onto the carpet.

“This is what a real bleeding disorder looks like.”

My lips looked bloodless in the full-length mirror.

Silas’s chest heaved as he scooped Caterina into his arms.

“Go on. Keep acting. You’ve had years of practice. Calista, I know the truth now. You weren’t the one who saved me in Narragansett Bay. You stole the credit while Caterina was sick!”

I stayed on my feet even as darkness crowded my vision, my mind suddenly clearer than ever.

“So that’s what this was about…”

I narrowed my eyes at Caterina. The longer I looked, the more familiar her face became.

Then I finally remembered who she was.

Panic flashed through Caterina’s eyes. She pinched herself hard, and tears spilled down her cheeks.

“Silas, my stomach hurts too. Our baby…”

Silas had no attention left for anything else. He rushed out with her in his arms.

If he had looked back just once, he would have seen that blood had soaked through the lower half of my dress and plastered it to my thighs.

The room spun, and everything went black.

When I opened my eyes again, a pale ceiling filled my vision, and the sharp smell of antiseptic stung my nose.

I later learned that Liam had never gone far. After Silas and his men left, he slipped back upstairs and found me collapsed in a pool of blood.

I blinked against the dryness in my eyes and rested a hand over my abdomen.

My poor baby was gone.

Liam’s eyes reddened.

“Ms. Orsini, the doctor said the baby’s heart had already stopped. The pain shouldn’t last long…”

I looked out the window at a gray world shrouded in fog.

Then my phone rang.

It was the manager of Gloucester Cemetery.

“Ms. Orsini, you have to talk to Mr. Serrano. He’s paying a crew to bulldoze the cemetery flat and turn it into a private dog park!”
