The Alpha Aunt They Framed Chapter 02

The Alpha Aunt They Framed Chapter 02

MAREN’S POV

“Aunt Maren, what did my dad say to you?” Elara stretched her neck and leaned closer, trying to peek at my conversation with her father.

In my first life, I didn’t want her to know that her heartless parents had only given me $215 before leaving her in my care. I quickly locked my phone screen, making sure she couldn’t see the

message.

But she misunderstood. She thought I was hiding the amount of money her parents had given me because I wanted to keep it for myself and my daughter.

After the graduation exam, when both families completely fell apart, I finally learned the truth

from Brielle.

Elara had often called her parents, crying about how badly she was treated while living with us.

Her parents would get furious and tear into me over the phone, accusing me of being cruel to their daughter despite the fact that they had given me living expenses. But they never told Elara that the so-called “living expenses” were only $215.

After yelling at me, they would turn around and tell Elara that this was what happened when you stayed under someone else’s roof and that she just had to endure it until graduation.

Thinking about all of that, I did something different this time.

I handed my phone directly to Elara and let her see exactly what kind of parents she had.

“Here. Your parents said you could stay with me, but they only gave me $215. That wouldn’t even

cover your share of the rent.”

That was the truth. $215 wasn’t even enough for her portion of the rent.

The apartment was located near Westbridge Pack Academy, one of the best pack academies in the

territory, so the rent was $4,200 a month.

If the rent were divided by person, her share alone would have been $1,050 a month.

Yet she had lived here for free for three years and never once realized what she owed me, and never

even showed a hint of gratitude.

Then I deliberately sighed.

“Rent near the academy is ridiculously expensive. It’s $4,200 a month. I really don’t know what your parents were thinking. $215 wouldn’t even cover your meals.”

After all, Elara was still just a girl. Her face immediately flushed the moment she heard that.

“Aunt Maren, I don’t eat much…”

Behind me, Brielle quietly tugged at my sleeve, as if asking whether I was being too harsh.

I patted her hand, then turned back to Elara.

“Either way, I’m your aunt. I won’t charge you for rent. Every week, you can eat whatever we eat.

But don’t expect anything beyond that.”

“I understand, Aunt Maren.”

Watching Elara lower her head with that pitiful expression, I’ll admit, I almost softened again.

But wasn’t that exactly how she fooled me in my first life?

Being a top student didn’t mean someone had a good heart.

Even getting accepted into the best university in the country couldn’t change her flawed character.
