The Real Heiress Is Overworked, Forget Love and Just Pay Her Chapter 05

Mrs Shaw’s eyes were red. “Gemma, how could you? Your father was ready to give you the shares. Why are you still targeting Vera?”

“Dad, Mom, forget it,” Chase spat, his voice dripping with venom. “Stop hoping she’ll change. Gemma’s not the sister I grew up with. Don’t give her a single share, and don’t let her stay in this house. Someone like her belongs behind bars.”

Silence hung in the room. Then I nodded.

“You know what? You’re right. Let’s call the cops.”

While they all stared at me in shock, I walked to the corner of my room and pulled out the hidden action

camera.

“We’ll let the police decide who hurt who.”

Vera’s face went ashen.

She recognized the camera. The other three had no clue what it was. Mrs. Shaw asked, “Gemma, what is

that?”

“An action camera.” I flashed a smile. “High-def. The kind that can slow footage down and zoom in on every tiny detail. You all say I attacked her? Great. Let’s watch the replay and see if she fell, or if I pushed her.”

The more I talked, the whiter Vera got. She scrambled to backpedal. “We don’t need to watch it. Just… let’s

just say I fell on my own, okay? Mom, Dad, please don’t let this ruin things between you and Gemma.”

I let out a cold laugh. “Oh, don’t worry. Watching it won’t ruin anything. There’s nothing left to ruin. You four

already have your perfect little bond. I was never part of it anyway.”

That one landed like a bomb. Every face in the room changed color.

I grabbed my repaired laptop and slid the SD card into the slot.

Vera’s composure shattered. She lunged forward. “Don’t watch that-”

Chase yanked her back, scowling. “Let her. I want to see what garbage she’s about to make up.”

He sat Vera down and started cleaning her wound with rubbing alcohol. Vera stayed frozen, her eyes glued to

my screen, not even flinching as the disinfectant hit her cut.

I pulled up the footage and dragged the timeline to the exact moment. Then I slowed it down.

The camera was expensive for a reason. The image was razor-sharp.

My hand did touch Vera’s face, but the contact was feather-light, just a brush of my fingers She stood still

for two full seconds after that, then launched herself diagonally backward.

She rolled with precision, aimed straight for the vanity, and thrust her own arm up to meet the falling knife

Every stumble, every angle, every “accident”, she chose all of it.

The video ended. The silence that followed was so heavy you could hear a pin drop.

I looked at Chase. “So? Still want to call the cops?”

Chase said nothing.

It was Mrs. Shaw who broke the quiet. She looked at Vera. “Vera, why did you set your sister up?”

Tears burst from Vera’s eyes. “I-I don’t know. Mom, I don’t know what came over me. I wasn’t thinking

straight. It wasn’t on purpose, I swear. Gemma, I’m so sorry. I know I messed up.”

Before Mrs. Shaw could even respond, Chase snapped.

“Mom, what kind of question is that? A setup? Even if Vera staged the fall, Gemma hit her first. Can you

blame her for reacting out of fear?”

“Why is everyone attacking Vera all of a sudden? Has anyone stopped to think why she feels this insecure?

It’s because Gemma pushed her to this point!”

“And how perfect-a paring knife just happened to be sitting on the vanity. Who the hell keeps a knife there?

Gemma must have planned this whole damn thing.”

“Excellent point.” I slow-clapped. “You’re absolutely right. Why was there a paring knife on my vanity? Let’s

check the replay, shall we?”

I didn’t wait for permission. I pulled up the earlier footage.

The screen showed Vera walking into my room, holding the paring knife. She paused to size up the angles,

then carefully positioned it on the edge of the vanity.

After that, she moved to my open laptop and started typing furiously, muttering to herself the whole time.

The audio was crystal clear, “You bitch. You think you can just waltz in and take this family’s money? You

think having some job makes you better than me? I’m going to burn it all to the ground.”
