Never Offend the Hidden Don Chapter 09

Never Offend the Hidden Don Chapter 09

“Shut him up’ Beat him!”

Victor lost control completely.

He swung his hand, his face dark with rage and his eyes full of murder.

“Crush him! Break his legs. If anything happens, it’s on me. I want him crawling out of New York like a

coward.”

The bodyguards stepped forward with savage looks.

Heavy hands reached for me.

My daughter burst into frightened sobs.

I turned sideways and shielded her with my body, watching the men close in.

There was no fear in me.

The moment Victor stepped into my territory, my people had already locked onto him.

I glanced up.

On the roof above, a rifle had been set in place, its sight fixed on Victor’s right leg.

A man like him deserved to lose another one.

And this time, I wouldn’t go to prison.

Just as the sniper was about to pull the trigger, a woman’s voice ripped through the alley, sharp enough to

break.

“Stop!”

Everyone froze.

Isabella stumbled in from the mouth of the alley.

She had no umbrella.

Her hair and expensive suit were already soaked through by the rain.

Her face was white as a sheet, and her lips trembled nonstop.

She shoved past the bodyguard in front of her and lifted her head, staring straight at Victor.

Her eyes were bloodshot.

Water rolled down her cheeks, and no one could tell whether it was rain or tears.

“Victor, I heard everything you just said.” Her voice was hoarse, shaking on the edge of collapse “Was it true?

Answer me!”

The color drained from Victor’s face.

He rushed forward and tried to grab her hand.

“Isabella, didn’t I tell you to go home first?”

“Don’t touch me!” Isabella threw him off and took a step back. “Answer me. At the engagement party, were you pretending?”

“That was nonsense. I only said it to piss Enzo off. Back then, I… really was drunk. You saw it yourself. He broke my leg just because I kissed you once. He’s a violent lunatic.”

Victor rambled, his eyes darting everywhere.

Just then, a clear female voice came from outside the crowd.

“Move, please.”

The people around us parted.

A woman in a beige trench coat walked in quickly, followed by more than a dozen old neighbors from the

block.

Mr. Bianchi carried a wrench.

Mrs. Rossi gripped a broom.

Sal held a shovel.

Every one of them looked furious.

“Clara?”

Isabella froze.

Clara was my wife.

She had also once been Isabella’s best friend.

Seven years ago, in the assault case that ruined my life, she had been my lawyer.

Clara nodded slightly at Isabella, then walked straight to my side.

First, she touched our daughter’s head. “Don’t be scared, baby. Mom’s here.”

Then she looked up at Victor.

“Mr. Blackwood, when you came back from London seven years ago, your marriage there hadn’t been legally

dissolved. Your son was two years old at the time.”

“Do I need to produce the marriage registration and the child’s birth certificate?”

Victor froze as the truth hit him hard.

His lips shook. “You’re lying.”

“In March 2016, you owed a huge gambling debt and were being chased by a local gang.” Clara’s voice stayed steady and clear. “That was why you fled back to New York.”

“After you came home, the first thing you did was approach Isabella. Not because of love. It was because she was Enzo’s fiancée, and their company was growing fast.”

Clara’s eyes sharpened.

“You got close to her, stirred up conflict between her and Enzo, and staged that scene at the engagement party. Your goal was to provoke Enzo, make him lose control, and force him into a mistake.”

Then she turned to Isabella.

Her eyes were complicated. “Isabella, I warned you three times.”

“The first time was two weeks after Victor came back. I found out about his debt in London.”

“The second time was three days before the engagement party. I told you he was acting strange and might do something.”

“The third time was after Enzo went to prison. I told you there were problems with the case.”

“But every time, you said, ‘Clara, Victor isn’t like that. We grew up together.”

Isabella shook all over.

Tears finally spilled down her face.
