Never Offend the Hidden Don Chapter 08

Never Offend the Hidden Don Chapter 08

The more Victor talked, the more excited he became.

It was as if he had finally found a place to dump everything he had carried for years.

“Weren’t you so arrogant at the engagement party? Weren’t you going to kill me? And what happened?”

“You went to prison. You lost everything.”

“And I got Isabella, the company, and everything you used to have. How could you possibly compare to me?”

At the mention of the engagement party, my eyes shifted slightly.

Victor caught that tiny change.

His smile turned strange and cruel.

He leaned closer, his eyes shining with smugness. “Actually, there’s something you probably never knew. For old times’ sake, I’m in a good mood today. I’ll tell you.”

“That show at the engagement party seven years ago was staged.”

He paused, clearly hoping to watch my expression crack.

Unfortunately for him, I only listened quietly.

My face stayed still.

He continued, “I wasn’t drunk that day. I was more sober than anyone. I kissed her in front of everyone,

especially you, because I knew your temper. I knew you’d lose your mind.”

“And sure enough, you didn’t disappoint me.”

“Enzo, that bottle didn’t just break my leg. It smashed your future and that ridiculous relationship with

Isabella.”

“Honestly, I should thank you. Without that hit, Isabella might not have made up her mind to leave you and

come to me.”

There it was at last.

The secret he had buried for seven years.

His twisted pride was laid bare in the rain.

The sound of the downpour seemed to grow louder.

My daughter shifted uneasily in my arms.

Victor stepped back and returned to that high, condescending posture.

“I can let the past go. But you shouldn’t have appeared in front of Isabella today. And you definitely shouldn’t

have made her feel things she has no business feeling. You don’t deserve to stay in New York.”

He raised his hand and held up three fingers.

“Three days. That’s all I’m giving you. Get out of New York and never come back. Don’t show up anywhere

Isabella can see you again. Otherwise…”

His eyes sharpened.

The men behind him stepped forward at the same time, their faces hardening.

“Otherwise what?” I finally spoke.

My voice wasn’t loud, but it cut clearly through the rain. “You’ll break my leg? Like I broke yours back then?”

Victor’s face darkened.

“Victor.” I looked at him without a ripple in my eyes. “You keep saying I lost and you won. What exactly did you win? A wife you got by pretending to be drunk and setting a trap?”

“A business you stole through years of scheming? Or that little victory you hide in the dark every night

because you know it can’t stand the light?”

The muscles in his face twitched.

“You say Isabella is your wife.” I kept going. “Then why did her eyes look hollow when she sat in my car? Why

did she lose control when she found out I was married with a child?”

“Why did her body go stiff when you kissed her in front of me? Why did she look like she wanted to pull

away? Is that what you call winning?”

“You shut up!” Victor suddenly roared.

His calm finally cracked. “You don’t know anything about me and Isabella. You don’t get to judge us. You think saying this will turn us against each other? Pathetic.”

“I don’t need to turn anyone against anyone.” I shook my head. “I’m just curious. Have you slept well these past seven years? You got everything through lies and manipulation.”

“Every night, when you touch that leg I broke, do you ever think about the idiot you tricked so easily?”

“Do you ever worry that one day Isabella will learn the truth, and everything you built will collapse like a

sandcastle?”

“You…” Victor’s chest heaved.

He pointed at me, too furious to speak.

My words had stabbed straight into the corners he least wanted anyone to touch.

“Already angry?” I looked at him. “Did I hit the truth? Victor, deep down, you’ve always known it. You never

really won.”
