Never Offend the Hidden Don Chapter 06

Never Offend the Hidden Don Chapter 06

Isabella’s body stiffened.

She wanted to dodge.

She didn’t manage to.

That scene dragged me back to the engagement party seven years ago.

Back then, he had also used drunkenness as an excuse to kiss Isabella in front of a room full of guests.

My head had roared.

Rage had burned reason to ash.

I grabbed a bottle from the table and charged at him without thinking about anything else.

Now, I watched his intimate gesture and felt nothing at all, no anger, no jealousy, not even a flicker of

emotion.

Victor looked at me again, still smiling.

His eyes held something deeper.

“So, Enzo, how have you been? That rideshare car is yours, right?”

I answered softly, “Pretty good.”

“Is driving rideshare hard?” His tone sounded concerned, like he truly cared about an old friend. “If you ever need help, you can tell me. We do go way back.”

“It’s fine. I’m used to it.”

“That’s good.” Victor nodded. “You gotta stay grounded. What you have now may be tougher, but it’s stable.

That’s not a bad thing.”

Every word sounded polite.

Together, they reeked of superiority and contempt.

“Oh, by the way.” He acted as if he had just remembered something.

“Next month is our seventh wedding anniversary. We’re having a small gathering. Just some old friends. Do you wanna come? It’s been years. We can all catch up.”

Isabella looked at him.

Her lips moved slightly, but she said nothing.

Before I could answer, my daughter tugged at my collar. “Daddy, I’m hungry.”

“Okay. We’re going home.”

I patted her back, then looked at Victor. “Thanks for the invitation, but I probably won’t have time. Have fun.”

Victor didn’t push.

He only smiled. “That’s too bad. But I get it. You’ve got a family to take care of now. Must keep you busy.”

He tightened his arm around Isabella.

“We won’t hold you up, then. Baby, let’s go. We’re meeting Mr. Johnson for lunch, and we can’t be late.”

Isabella looked at me.

There were too many things in her eyes, but I didn’t try to read them.

Finally, she lowered her head and whispered, “Enzo, then… goodbye.”

“Goodbye.”
