He Sent a Fake to Scare Me Off, I Ended Up Feeding Him for Months Chapter 02

The student who had so “kindly” shown me the way waited until I entered the classroom, then hurried around the corner to the stairwell, where several other wealthy students were waiting.

Mason Cole grinned at the gorgeous boy standing in the middle of the group.

“Chase, it’s done. That girl isn’t exactly bright.”

“She believed everything I said. I pointed at Elias and told her the Whitmores had gone bankrupt and you couldn’t even afford lunch. Her mouth practically fell open.”

“She even saw that pathetic stale roll Elias brought for lunch. If that doesn’t scare her away, what’s she planning to do, take him on as a charity project?”

“I’m telling you, she’ll have her father call off the engagement within three days.”

Annoyance flashed through Chase’s eyes, but he still asked, “You’re sure three days will be enough? She really bought it?”

“I saw the picture she had. It only showed your profile, and from that angle, you and Elias looked similar enough.”

“I also told her you’d started using another name after the Whitmores went bankrupt so the debt collectors couldn’t find you. She swallowed every word.”

“If she actually runs into you, just tell her you’re someone else with the same name. Anything’s better than letting her latch onto you.”

Chase slipped his hands into his pockets, his handsome features finally relaxing.

“Some new-money girl from the sticks? Who still arranges engagements between kids these days?”

“Exactly. The Whitmores are old money. If your family wanted a marriage alliance, they should’ve chosen a girl from the same world.”

“Your brother married the heiress to Harrington Development, but somehow you got stuck with a country girl.”

“Tell me about it. My mom’s been raising hell at home for days. She even threatened to stop eating unless Dad ended the engagement.”

“But Dad does whatever Grandpa tells him, and Grandpa insists on honoring the promise he made to his old war buddy.”

Mason hesitated. “Still, I have to say, your fiancée…”

Chase shot him a cold look, and Mason quickly corrected himself.

“That country girl is actually pretty. I took a picture without her noticing. Want to see it? You might end up liking her.”

Chase scoffed. “What the hell is wrong with you? You think I’d ever go for some girl from the sticks?”

Mason scratched his head and muttered, “She really is gorgeous. Even prettier than your childhood sweetheart, who’s supposed to be the prettiest girl in school.”
