I Dated Twin Guys As Their Online Experiment, But I Had My Own Plan Chapter 08

Over the next two weeks, the comments about the twins thinned out. A stray line would drift by now and

then, but I didn’t pay much attention.

From the scraps I caught, Teould piece together the shape of things-Vivian got an A on her project, but she

didn’t seem happy. The dynamic between her and the twins had grown strange. They still met up. They still

talked. But the air was different.

Ethan used to ping her with random details of his day. Now he didn’t.

Evan used to polish the data section of her reports. Now he told her she could fix it herself.

Vivian was baffled, but she was too proud to ask what was wrong.

Until one day, at a wing joint off campus, Ethan brought up my name.

The basket of wings had just landed on the table. Ethan grabbed a drumstick, bit into it, and said, totally out

of nowhere, “Nora was obsessed with these. She told me once she could live off buffalo wings.”

Vivian’s fingers froze around her napkin. Evan shot him a look but said nothing.

Ethan didn’t seem to register the shift in the air. He kept going. “She said the wing joint at her school was

amazing. She wanted to take me someday.”

“Can you not bring up other people while we’re eating?” Vivian set her wing down. Her voice was cold.

“Why not? It’s just a random thought.” Ethan looked genuinely confused.

“You’ve cut contact. She blocked both of you. Why are you still talking about her?” Vivian’s tone sharpened.

“Are you still hung up on her?”

Ethan’s brow furrowed. “I said one thing about her liking wings. That’s ‘hung up’?”

“Then why say it at all?”

“Because I’m eating wings and remembered something she told me. Why is that a problem?”

Vivian sucked in a breath and turned to Evan, who hadn’t said a word. “You don’t see a problem with this?”

Evan picked up a celery stick from the wing platter, bit into it with deliberate calm, and finally spoke. “He mentioned one thing. It’s not that deep.”

Vivian’s expression went darker. The meal soured fast.

After that, the relationship between Vivian and the twins warped into something strange. On the surface, they were still friends. But everyone could feel something had shifted.

Ethan started going out with other friends. He didn’t orbit Vivian the way he used to. Evan never said much, but his replies to Vivian’s messages slowed to a crawl. They still helped when she asked, but the blind -obedience- the “whatever you say” energy-was gone.

The comments fed me these updates piece by piece. I read them, blank-faced, and turned my phone over.

It had nothing to do with me.
