He Asked Me Out to Get Back at Her, I Gave Him a Rulebook Instead Chapter 09

He Asked Me Out to Get Back at Her, I Gave Him a Rulebook Instead Chapter 09

I broke up with Ronan that night. Blocked his number before he could say a word.

This time, he didn’t try to find a way around it.

Life went on. Classes, part-time shifts, the usual routine.

Every gift Ronan had ever given me went straight to resale.

My family didn’t need designer bags. We needed money.

I didn’t hide the listings, either. And when the stream of floating comments told me Ronan was the one

buying everything back? I raised the prices.

[They were gifts from the man I love. But he doesn’t want me anymore.]

$15CK. Not bad for things I never asked for.

Vivienne didn’t go running to Ronan.

She wasn’t stupid. She knew her hands weren’t clean in this.

So she watched. And waited.

By then, the whole campus knew Ronan had been dumped.

He hadn’t told anyone. His pride would never allow it. But word got out anyway.

Vivienne stared at me from across the room.

“Aren’t you angry?”

She waited. When I didn’t respond, she kept going, almost like she was talking to herself. “Honestly? Take away his face and his money, and he’s not even as good as Landon.”

“Our families are talking. About making it official.” She paused. “I lied to you before. So I’m telling you this time.”

Every word out of her mouth was a weapon, and she knew exactly where to aim.

She wanted me to flinch. I didn’t.

I kept tidying my desk, not even looking at her. “Landon’s in love with you. Obviously he’s nice to you.”

Vivienne flinched. In her world, saying something like that out loud was almost as bad as it being true.

“Maren. 3top.” Her voice went sharp. “That’s not funny.”

“That would never happen.”

“Come on. You’ve seen the way he looks at you. It’s nothing like how he treats his actual girlfriends.” I paused. “And you’re not blood-related. Once he figures that out, the revolving door of random girls stops.

“And this thing with Ronan’s family. If it’s such a done deal, why do you keep bringing it up to me?” I finally

looked at her. “Doesn’t sound like someone who’s confident.

That landed. I could see it in her eyes.

Because I was right, and she knew it.

Ronan was obvious when he liked someone.

And he’d stopped noticing the things she liked, the things he used to know by heart.

The stream of floating comments was losing its mind. [Does the side character have psychic powers?? How

does she know EVERYTHING?]

[The MMC’s a mess. He can’t let go of her, but he doesn’t say no to the engagement either. He just sits there

rereading their old texts. Every single day.]

[He’s not dumb enough to use the engagement to make her jealous… right? She wouldn’t even blink.]

[Not to change the subject but where is the $300K she was promised?? Has anyone paid her??]

The $300K. Right. I looked at Vivienne. “You know, there’s an easier way to handle this.”

“You pay me to stay away from Ronan. You get him. I get paid. Everybody’s happy.”

Vivienne’s chin lifted. “I don’t buy people off. Once the families sign, it’s over. His parents would never let

someone like you through the door.”

I shrugged. “$75K buys you one month. I don’t contact him. Not once.’

Then I pulled up my resale app and turned the screen toward her. “He bought this yesterday.”

Vivienne looked at the price. Then at the purchase history, Ronan buying back everything I’d listed, paying more than it was worth every single time. Her composure shattered.

The engagement wasn’t locked yet. And she knew it.

“You’re unbelievable.” Her voice was shaking. “You planned this from the start.”

She’d been watching me for days. And the worst part, the part she couldn’t accept, was that I didn’t even

want him.

She suspected I’d found the bet on purpose.

But she couldn’t prove it.

“What if I tell Ronan everything you just said?”

I didn’t even blink. “Go ahead.”

Vivienne grabbed her bag and walked out. The door didn’t slam this time. It clicked shut, which was worse.

She paid for the first month.

The stream of floating comments confirmed it: Ronan and Vivienne went nowhere.

Then Vivienne paid for a second.

I sent her a message. [Thank you for renewing your subscription.]

She blocked me.

Landon found out the truth about not being blood-related to Vivienne sooner than he was supposed to. And

he moved fast.

Vivienne, who ran her entire life on reputation, was horrified.

Once the rumors started spreading, she cut him off completely.

The stream of floating comments popped up. [Wait, who anonymously tipped Landon off about the fake cousin revelation??]

[And now all his exes are coming out of the woodwork dragging him for ghosting them. Beautiful.]

I quietly deleted the chat.

I could be petty too.
